Janet McLaughlin is a singer/songwriter currently living in Nashville. Her work and artistry have opened the way for tours at universities and at festivals all over the country. McLaughlin blends beautiful lyrics with outstanding guitar playing, weaving wonderful songs together.
As a professional singer-songwriter, Janet is widely known for her prowess with the guitar. Playing from an early age, she has had extensive professional training in classical, acoustic and electric guitar and has been a teacher of beginners, songwriters and professional players alike for more than 20 years. Janet’s teaching spans from the basics of chords, rhythm, music reading and the Nashville number system to the nuances of various genres and styles.
Janet has shared the stage with many industry greats, including Shawn Mullins, Emmylou Harris and John Prine. Having toured as the opening act with the likes of the Indigo Girls and Bill Maher of Politically Incorrect, Janet McLaughlin is a wonderful addition to any performance roster.
Janet’s songs have been recorded by a number of artists, including country music legend Loretta Lynn, who recorded “Walk on Water”. Her co-writing partners include some of the industry’s best - Pat Alger,(“The Thunder Rolls” - Garth Brooks), Casey Kelly (This Is Where the Cowboy Rides Away” - George Strait) and Steve Seskin (Grown Men Don’t Cry” - Tim McGraw).
An involved member of Nashville’s music scene, McLaughlin is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and the Songwriter’s Guild of America. Since 1996, she has done extensive work with the Nashville Songwriter Association and the Girl Scouts of America on a project called Camp SummerSong which is designed to help young girls develop their own songwriting skills. She does volunteer songwriting workshops with school-age children through the Country Music Foundation.
For the last several years, Janet has worked with the Mountain Valley Arts Council in her home town of Guntersville, Alabama, by helping put together an up and coming songwriting festival.
McLaughlin, who earned her Bachelor in Music Education, also teaches a college level course in music theory designed for the songwriter and music professional.
In the Spring of 2003, McLaughlin released her second CD, “Live At Eddie’s Attic”. This album has been described as a fun and delightful collection of her work, “It is a joy to listen to over and over again.” She is currently working on her third CD, slated for release later this year.
Her third album “Shine In The Moon” is now complete and has some new songs written by Janet and some of her friends.
