Jan was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1952 on a cold day in February. She grew up on Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and the Beatles. Jan considers Richie Havens as her biggest music influence. In 1960, her family moved to Staten Island, New York. At 8, she started piano lessons. At 11, her big brother, Pat, gave her his Harmony semi-electric guitar for a Christmas present. She taught herself from the latest Beatles music book. The first song she learned was I Wanna Hold Your Hand. In 1965, she and her best friend put together the first all female rock band on Staten Island called The Starliters. The rest is history. She is an original songwriter/guitarist/performer and producer who has been playing New York City clubs since 1980. In 1987, Jan was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Major Bummer!
I've played many New York City clubs, including: Bitter End, CBGBs, Pyramid, Continental, Coney Island High, Street Level, Spiral, Rock n' Roll Cafe, New Music Cafe, Sun Mountain and a slew of ?others. She was also featured as one of the "new artists" on Reaction Records' (New York City) 1996 Double CD Compilation. I still get out to the clubs.
