Listened to Shalom To You, Count Basie - twice. Awesome arrangement! Loved the band playing the tune too. As good as any big band jazz arrangement I have ever heard. Sweet, melodic and swings wonderfully. Can't think of the band's name for sure at the moment, I think last name was Peterson, (maybe Dave Peterson?), the ensemble sound and arrangement as well as the tune reminded me of something they did and that was a pretty great band. I have heard the other versions of Caravan and each one had it's strong points, loved every one of them, but I must admit, this is by far my favourite. This band "Orquesta Dharma" is hot, hot, hot, from the word go, the piano, very cuban sounding along with the percussion sets the tone for the whole song with the drummer and bass, they are a-cookin'. Then the sax solo and trombone, both killer solos very enjoyable, great playing. And if that wasn't enough, it was more than enough in my mind, but, we got treated to and incredible piano solo and a killer conga percussion solo, man oh man can these guys play, just took me to the stratosphere, up and dancing. This piece was a real beyond my expectation treat, the Duke would be so proud, what an excellent job, what a killer band, love it!!!!

Let me start by saying, I love this piece. Latin is one of my favourite genres and when I hear a bone playing on top of a latin rhythm, it's like heaven to me. The head of the song, is really well thought out, very catchy, that's what I look for, it comes back at the end and it lingers in your mind. You can do whatever you like, solo, bridges etc. in the middle, but bring it on home baby, and you did just that. The bone plays it so perfect, a relaxed, lazy, and yes, sexy feeling, and the supporting percussion keeps the momentum. I think one of the nicest features in the song is the background vocals, wow!!! just gave it that sort of Cuban authenticity. Needless to say, I love this tune for so many reasons, makes me want to listen to it again, and that's what I aim to do. Well done Jamie, one of the best.

Thanks Jamie, Yes I did that on sonar6 - in one day. (not recommended!) And a cheap mxl 70 dollar mic. BUt I just wanna say that the trombone thing you do is great. I'm originally a trombonist, and played in the Navy Band from 80-84. I love hearing good trombone stuff - I keep threatening to play again. BLessings to you Jamie.

OK ... the original composition by Thad Jones is beautiful ... And that's help. But here we have a marvelous and tasteful arrangement for trombone and that IS challenging. I like the spirit of it. Very respectful of the tune and beautifully played. High musicianship here. Congrats,

Likewise man. I really thank you for visiting my page. You don't see many more bone players around. I'm glad there is someone besides me that trying to keep the slide alive. You have some nice stuff on your site. I'm interested in maybe giving you one of my compositions to see how it would sound coming from another bone player. Let me know what you think.

Hi buddy! Just listened your rendition of "A Child is Born". Sweet song, isn't? :-) I can't say I'm a Jazz musician (more into Prog & Fusion), but I loved your stuff. Best regards from Brazil!

Hi James, dropped by for a listen and have been really enjoying your music a lot and will be back for more; excellent work guy! I am a bone man also, and play lead trombone an a big band here in Fort Worth. My original stuff is more a fusion of jazz/rock/pop. Give a listen sometime: the tunes I play bone on are "Pink Leather Jumpsuit", "Up High on a River", and "Michelle". Keep up the good work, I'll be enjoying more... Mike Rooney

Greetings Jamie Dubberly, Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a listen to A Child Is Born by Dave Grusin. Don't feel bad, sent a CD backstage for Dave Grusin and then went to meet my friend Hubert Laws. Dave came out and he recognized me and said, "Anna, sorry to disappoint you but I didn't write that song, Thad Jones did!" Told him, "I understand your confusion, I know the Thad Jones one and yours and yours is the one from Disney's Pediatric AIDS album, the lyrics were sung by Barbra Streisand and you wrote the melody to Marilyn Bergman's lyrics. He continued to deny it was his. About 20 minutes later he returned and apologized. He DID remember! : ^ ) Lee Ritenour was there too! Spoke to him again at the Grammys last year. Love the trombone, saw Steve Turre's name in your favs. Are you familiar with Phil Ranelin? (Freddy Hubbard, Vibes from Tribe) He and I did a show a few year ago, AWESOME player. Has CD out, "Close Encounters of the Very Best Kind" Stay strong, great

Hi Jamie, great to hear from you as always. Nice action pic of you doing your thing – and Perfidia sounds amazing, reflective and atmospheric, beautiful cascades and progressions, an utterly worthwhile listening experience!! It seems like it’s been forever since we’ve been active online, but we sincerely wanted to stop by thank you for listening as always – offline distractions and all that “real life” stuff, sorry it took so long! All good wishes for 2006 from Laura and Chris :)
