Country General

Ivy League Music Group based in East Texas is all about family and sharing music. Jim Ivy, is a songwriting veteran of forty years and following close behind, writing for fifteen years, is daughter Gina Ivy-Carroll. "Daddy loves country, baby likes pop... and when they write together, they butt heads alot. It all comes together by the end of the song, cause music is magic, it heals and it bonds. So whether its country, or whether its not, music is music, and our family's heart!"
Band/artist history
Jim Ivy has been writing songs for forty years and one song in particular, "God Worked Overtime On You and Texas", went to #2 on the charts in Europe. In his earlier years, he was offered a position with Tree Publishing in Nashville, but declined the offer for personal reasons. He has since went on to open his own country music show, "The Gladewater Opry", which has proven to be a very successful venture and a five-time, consecutive winner of the CMOA "Best Opry of the Year" Award. Jim co-owns the show with his wife, Nancy, who is the producer of the show. Jim plays bass, lead guitar, and also provides background vocals. Born into an already established, musical background, Gina was raised on traditional country music (and Elvis). Her father's collection of music ran from Texas Swing to the Nashville Sound. Her musical roots may have started traditional, but over the years have "branched" to a melting pot of musical styles. She began singing and writing in 1988 and feels the best is yet to come! Gina now lives just outside of Nashville, in Murfreesboro, and is pursuing her writing and a degree in public relations/music industry at Middle Tennessee State University.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes. My parents own a country music show in Gladewater, Texas. Occasionally I perform at other venues or festivals. My most awesome performance moment, was not even on the frontline, but I was in heaven all the same. In September of 2003, I sang background vocals for Catherine Raney, who opened for Tim McGraw at his annual Swampstock Festival. It was the first time I had ever been on a professional soundstage, and in front of thousands and thousands of people. I didn't want to leave the stage!
Your musical influences
Anyone that ever moved me to some emotion with their song... I love Bob Dylan's writing, Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Faith Hill, Aerosmith, Foreigner, Journey, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Waylong Jennings, Patsy Cline and Elvis... how about we say that I pretty much love it all.
What equipment do you use?
I have a Yamaha Syn and an Ibanez Tele-acoustic
Anything else?
Hope you like the music and be kind to all you meet!
