2Pac, Gang Starr/Premier, Pete Rock, OutKast, Hieroglyphics, Zion I.. I wouldn't expect my music to really sound like any of them though. Over the years, my style has gradually shifted toward alternative hip-hop similar to that of Sage Francis, Sole, and the whole Anticon crew.
I compose mostly on a Korg Triton and used to use a Yamaha AW16G (a stand-alone 16 track digital workstation) for recording and mixing, but have since moved to a computer with a Cubase setup. For a MIDI/audio interface I use an Echo Gina 3G. I don't use loop programs or samples (with the exception of 1 song, i.e. "Flow Right").
I try to avoid being part of the mold. Most of my stuff is too esoteric for most hip-hop listeners. It's pretty epic. Maybe I'm ahead of my time..
