IL Duce (Bobby Heenan and J. Morningstar) was formed in the summer of 1999, when two aspiring MC's battled each other to see who could really claim to have mic supremacy. Neither one won the battle that day, but a musical partnership was born that today is IL Duce.
In the summer of 2000, Heenan and Morningstar joined General Population, a hip-hop/rock band that was scouted by A&R Kurt St. Thomas of Tommy Boy Records, who particularly pointed out the duo's knack for hooks and song structure. When GP disbanded shortly after the deal fell through, Bobby and J-Dot kept working together, churning out mixtapes and EP's with B-Sharp Productions.
In 2003, IL Duce signed with independent label RSP Records. While with the label, they were featured on the Hagerstown Hip Hop Comp Disc, and released another EP simply called the IL Duce EP. Both releases garnered attention in the MD-PA-VA-DC area, and allowed IL Duce to play two sold out shows in Waynesboro, PA. When support from the label didn't turn out to be what the group expected, they left the label and formed Absent Minded Entertainment.
Now in 2004, things have never looked better for the Duce. They are getting ready to release their first full length album on Absent Minded Entertainment/B-Sharp Productions, are beginning to tour, and their last two mixtapes, Full Metal Jacket: War of Words Vol. 1 and The Josh Morningstar Mixtape, have garnered the group play up and down the east coast. Watch out. There's about to be a problem.Have you performed in front of an audience?We play live all the time. We mainly play in Baltimore, Philly, and Pittsburgh, but keep your eyes open, because we could be coming to a city near you VERY soon!
