Hunter’s 25 years in music have included solo albums with Columbia Records, gigging at venerable clubs on both coasts (The Bitter End, Club 47, The Unicorn, At My Place, McCabe’s, The Coffee Gallery, LA Convention Center), opening for touring pros like Bonnie Raitt, working with legends like John Hammond and Leonard Bernstein, having songs featured on network television (ER, VH1, 7th Heaven, PBS), and hosting his own nationally-syndicated radio program. Hunter’s One Last Chance ( 2000) has been #1 for months at virtually every website that charts music and was recently featured on iTunes. His current release, Nailed, will be in stores in January 2005.
Band/artist history
Hunter Payne began his professional career at sixteen in the great folk tradition of Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he played local spots, including the venerable Club 47 and Unicorn coffeehouses, toured the College Coffeehouse Circuit, headlined Greenwich Village’s Bitter End, opened for touring pros such as Bonnie Raitt and recorded several solo albums for Columbia Records, where he worked with legendary producer John Hammond. During these years Hunter also served as Leonard Bernstein’s music and television liaison at PBS Television for Bernstein’s highly acclaimed eight-week Harvard University Norton Lecture series. At PBS, Hunter scored for television, hosted his own nationwide radio show on NPR, and became a featured vocalist on the WGBH-TV Jazz Show. Since moving to L. A., Hunter has landed spots in film and TV, including La Bamba, Alien Nation, ER, VH1, PBS, and 7th Heaven. His last release ("ONE LAST CHANCE") was #1 everywhere on the net that charts music. His current release ("NAILED") features members of The Wallflowers and Warrant.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Live has its ups and downs. I've played for thousands and I've played for one. I've played for the best audiences and I've played for drunks. When I opened for Bonnie Raitt, the crowd was great.
Your musical influences
Anywhere from Bach to Jelly Roll Morton to the Beatles to Sheryl Crow.
