“Ed wants to drink, Steve wants to get laid, and I have to write all the friggin’ tunes”.
Thomas Davidson, Songwriter for a group of northern monkeys known as Hoochie Coo.
Led by the instantly recognisable harmonica, divine intervention has blessed them with a knack for kicking out stadium-sized tunes. Also fighting for the musical limelight are Ed Kay, whisky-toting harp player, tone lowering bassist Steve Kuhl, and rhythmic genius Dan Buckland.
The band’s most memorable gig to date was winning the London Rock-Idols competition under their alias name, High Octane Blues Shenanigans. Less than two days later the four-piece were in the studio putting together their first CD, what is certain to be heralded the best mini-album of all time.
Since then the band has had several gigs around the London and Leeds area, and everyone involved with the band are very excited. Hoochie Coo are known to command the audience, offering a refreshing blues influenced dose of light hearted rock, which is gratefully received by all in attendance. Their energetic live sound is captured with a minimum of fuss, the band preferring tuneful simplicity to unnecessary musical extravagance.Band/artist history
Ed Kay, Harmonica & Vocals
Hair Style: Afro, not quite a full on OJ Simpson but not as tame as a Will Smith.
Contribution to the band: He is the icing on Tom’s cake if you will. His squalling gives Hoochie Coo that unique sound that is captivating audiences from Bradford to Bombay.
Previous Experience: “Ed is a great boy and gives the full treatment like no other” Ed’s last ‘customer’
Age: Physically 19, but mentally in his 50s. A moaning old man
Rockability factor: 9/10 - Don’t be put off by Ed’s quiet side and lack of co-ordination. Once on stage he has been compared to Ginger Rogers and despite his brunette topping is believed to have a couple himself.
Thomas Davidson, Lead & Vocals
Gender: Definitely male - we have (photo) graphic evidence
Contribution to the band: The backbone of the band and probably most of the other bones too. He is the songwriter, lead guitarist and lead singer. He is also the drama queen, the beer monster, the short arse and the indoor-sunglasses-wearer.
Previous Experience: Tom has been in hundreds of bands, both real and imaginary, and attended several band camps.
Favourite daytime TV programme: Countdown.
Rockability factor: 7/10 - Easily tempted with ice-cream, or perhaps some tasty meat.
Steve Kuhl, Bass
Hairpiece: A high maintenance blonde effort, reminiscent of Beavis.
Contribution to the band: Instigator of high octane behaviour, drug consumption and expert on the female form.
Previous Experience: Lick My Love Pump, a Guns n' Roses tribute band.
Famously said: "Kill me now, for I have reached nirvana", on falling asleep on someone’s breasts.
Rockability factor: 4/10 - But gains extra points for unnecessary domestos use.
Dan Buckland, Drums
Estimated wealth: 8,500,000.
Contribution to the band: The solidarity needed to keep this shower together, perhaps the only member maintaining a degree of sanity.
Previous Experience: Literally hundreds of bands past and present. He's in demand.
Previous girlfriends: Literally hundreds of girls past and present. He's in demand.
Rockability factor: 8/10 - Solid as a solid thing well below its melting temperatureHave you performed in front of an audience?London, Made'of Ale
