Brit Pop

Helium Angel delivers a cornucopia of melodic indie guitar-driven pop. Combining crunchy dissonant chords with merry melodies, Helium Angel renders a sweaty, yet sweet noise-pop confection. Think Rubber Soul-era Beatles meets the Pixies.
Band/artist history
Formed in 1995, Helium Angel has independently released two full-length albums, and is currently recording its third. It has also contributed songs to numerous compilations, including Pop Under the Surface (2001, Yesterday Girl Records/Zip Records), International Pop Overthrow (1999, Del-Fi Records), A Fever! Compilation (1999, Bip Bip Records/Fever! Productions), and USA Power Pop (1998, Bam Balam Records). Helium Angel delivers an energetic live show, and has played at industry showcases such as the CMJ Musicfest (New York City), International Pop Overthrow and Poptopia (Los Angeles), and Baypop (San Francisco). Based in San Francisco, CA, they've toured from coast to coast and through Europe, and have shared the stage with bands such as Thee Headcoats, Jason Falkner, Cotton Mather, Deep Blue Something, and The Wonder Stuff. Blake (guitar/vocals) and Stephen (drums/vocals) met in junior high school jazz band in Santa Barbara, California. They soon discovered their mutual affinity for British invasion bands, snappy suits, and Vespa scooters, and by high school they formed their first band, the Consumers. Young as they were, they found themselves opening local shows for touring bands such as Dream Syndicate, the Bangles, and the Untouchables, and landing songs in regular rotation on a local commercial radio station as well as L.A.'s bellwether station KROQ. Plans for a national tour were put on hold when the band members packed their bags to head off their separate ways to college. Fast forward to their post college years, Blake and Stephen found themselves neighbors in NYC's Greenwich Village, so they gave in once again to the musical muse and formed Helium Angel. After a string of performances at various New York City clubs, including CBGBs and Brownies, Helium Angel made its 1996 exodus to San Francisco to release their first album. Once in San Francisco, they met up with Adam (bass/vocals) who had been cutting his teeth in various punk rock and hip hop bands. Helium Angel operates on a DIY aesthetic, from self-engineering and producing all their own recordings, booking their own tours, conceptualizing and producing album artwork, to creating killer dynamic shows for their fans ... these guys do it all.
