Band/artist history

halogen began playing in 2001 based out of vancouver, british columbia. after having been together for three months, the band recorded their first demo cd over the course of three days using a roland eight-track home recorder.

the resulting tracks were 'vase', 'cash underground' (a typical set-closer) and the, soon to be apparent, crowd favorite 'lost track.'

the following months saw the band quietly working on new tracks for a forthcoming studio recorded five-track demo, the elements, as well as playing many clubs and private venues, which began to raise awareness and a buzz for themselves.

in june 2002, halogen entered into 99.3 the fox's 'bandfest 2002', a contest based heavily on self-promotion/marketing, band appeal/draw and, most importantly, ability.

although not the style of music 99.3, a typically hard-rock station, usually plays - the band represented themselves very well, making it to the final round, beating out over 45 other local bands.

during this, halogen also took part in 104.9 x-fm's 'battle of the bands,' another hard-rock demographic. the band's comparatively experimental music still saw them place second overall in the competition - ultimately losing in the final round to: a hard rock/metal act.

during the 3 month long exhibitions, halogen used the live sets at barfly, ocean beach hotel and tommy's every night to debut new material to new audiences to get a feel of the various responses to the tracks. near the end of the competitions, the band found time to record their studio produced five-track demo which featured the songs: 'catcher', 'cutaway', 'rapidfax', 'fever' and 'don't kid around.'

fresh off of the successful events and eager from the exposure/radio play they received, the band began to play more gigs in vancouver for club owners whom had seen their shows. halogen was invited to be the headline act for the grand opening night of the vancouver club '303 live,' based upon their prior performances and energy.

halogen was invited to perform in 2003's bandfest (no longer sponsored by 99.3 the fox), and the band accepted only to take themselves out of the competition in the semi-final round due to extreme & consistant poor operation of the month long event.

halogen is currently ranked 2nd out of over 19000 songs world-wide on www.garageband.com, a site which allows musicians to rate songs by other musicians. also, the band has begun mixing work on a new, more polished demo for distribution to industry labels.
