Goodnight Ghost is John, Christy, Dave, and Matt. We live in St. Louis and just really try to write music that is special. Sometimes we succeed, maybe.
Band/artist history
We are friends and this is fun. There's more to it than that, I suppose, but you understand. We know you do. We know things.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We've played at the Rocket Bar, Off Broadway, Mississippi Nights, the Creepy Crawl, the Hi-Pointe, Lemmon's, and the Lemp Arts Center, all of which are located in our beloved St. Louis.
Your musical influences
Obviously, we love music. Some of the artists that we've been listening to lately -- for inspiration and otherwise -- include great, great artists like Bettie Serveert, Rachel's, Broken Social Scene, and Mirah. Also, bands like Low, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, and Yo La Tengo. Also, other bands. Have you heard Bricklayer? We really like Bricklayer.
What equipment do you use?
Matt plays on Pearl drums, which were bought used years ago. John plays a 5-string G&L bass through an old Peavey PA head and what we think is an at least somewhat homemade bass cabinet, both of which are inalterably broken at the moment. Dave plays a used Fender Telecaster (that he loves) through a Marhsall half-stack (that was, and thus, sounds, cheap). Dave also uses several decidedly inexpensive effects pedals, three of which are for delay and two of which are for other things. Christy sings, using borrowed -- and, again, often broken -- microphones.
Anything else?
We have a 4-song CD that was recorded by our friends Chris Deckard and Ben Davis at The Penny Studio in St. Louis. We really love it. Also, two new songs have been recorded for an upcoming compilation -- Local Schmocal: An Argument for Your Attention in Eight Parts -- that features Bricklayer, Target Market, and Wake Up Report. This comp was recorded by John John, who is very good at what he does. Also, he is a generous host. There was some debate as to the actual spelling of "schmocal," but in the end, phonetics won. Also, we have t-shirts, amazingly. Two designs in four colors, all lovingly made with love by our friend Karen. Also, we will soon have a CD that has 10 songs on it, and it will be called "Dance, Misery!" The four new songs were recorded by Eric at Alcatraz, who - like John John and Chris Deckard before him - is really quite fantastic at what he does. One of the songs is a cover, which may or may not make it on the CD, but we can all pack into my car and listen to it whenever we get together. I'll let you do that.
