Band/artist history
A BRIEF HISTORY. . . Glenn Bidmead was born in Sydney on Sunday 3rd February 1962. He started playing guitar at age nine and by high school was working weekend gigs with his brother Paul (a gifted drummer and vocalist). Glenn and Paul both moved to Brisbane in 1988 with their band and continued working gigs for the next six months. After six months the work all but dried up and Paul decided to move back to Sydney. Glenn however, stayed in Brisbane for the next ten years...which in hindsight was definately the right thing to do. For the next few years Glenn continued working gigs as a solo performer and then later on with friend Alex Crighton in their duo, Kindred Spirits. In 1996 Glenn was sick of playing cover gigs and decided to make the record he'd been threatening to do for years. And that's exactly what he did. teaming up with fellow songwriter and guitarist Steve Glover, the two of them started recording demos in a spare bedroom of Glenn's house in Kenmore on an old AKAI 1214 analogue recorder. These tapes eventually became their first album Squeezed, put out under the name of Lemonjuice. Glenn then went to work recording the follow-up album to Squeezed. After about six months Glenn surfaced withs a 22 track double album of material titled Twentieth Century Decadence. The wealth of material on this record was so vast and diverse that it blew most of the major labels in Sydney away and had a lot of very excited people talking about Lemonjuice. Publisher John Woodruff heard this album in 1997, saw the potential and signed Glenn to a publishing and recording deal. In February 1998 Glenn made the move back to Sydney from Brisbane and John arranged for Glenn to meet with producer Charles Fisher (Savage Garden, Invertigo, Ace of Base, Soul Decision, 1927, Gyan, Air Supply & Hoodoo Gurus to name but a few) to see what they might do together. Between May and October, 1998, the pair recorded twelve of Glenn's songs which were to become Glenn's first album. These were mixed by Chris Lord-Alge in Los Angeles. As yet, the album remains unreleased...go figure? In January 1999, Glenn received an invitation from Foreigner guitarist & songwriter Mick Jones to write with him in New York. This collaboration ended with two completed songs over a period of four days and one of these songs, SOMETHING GOOD is to be included on Foreigner's forthcoming album. The first single released in Australia through Roadshow/Warner was FIND LOVE, a simple, stripped back acoustic ballad which Glenn and Charles recorded in June 1999. Released in October 1999 it was added to radio stations all around the country and is still recieving airplay to this day. Glenn's second Roadshow/Warner single, A WORLD AWAY came out in March 2000 and once again radio nationwide added this more uptempo rock track to their playlists. A third single, BREATHING SLOWLY was about to be released when Roadshow pulled the plug and decided to take a rain check. Glenn continued working live while at the same time writing, recording and working out where to go next. Apart from writing and recording new material Glenn was also busy working in the studio producing and co-writing tracks for other artists such as Rebekah K, Laura Knowles, Daniel Skinner, August, Aimee Brazel, Jackie Bristow and Vanessa Morgan. Glenn decided to put out an e.p. of his original material stripped right back to their acoustic basics and started compiling the tracks that make up THE ACOUSTIC SESSIONS . So, in late 2002 Glenn released THE ACOUSTIC SESSIONS , containing eight of Glenn's original tunes. Raw and exposed, these recordings showcase both the hauntingly beautiful songs and Glenn's emotionally charged vocals. In late 2005 SONGS IN BLACK & WHITE was released. Basically an album of 17 tracks with just Vocals and Acoustic Guitar. A watershed of sorts, it enabled Glenn to finally put out these songs on CD and then move onto the next project. The latest project is a country album entitled RED DIRT ROAD . It's just been released and you can check out some samples from the album on the Audio page. Glenn continues to work with his friend Adam Thompson (of Chocolate Starfish fame) with Adam's music workshop project, Muso Magic, in schools and Aboriginal comunities all around Australia. They also do many corporate workshops as well. Glenn Bidmead is a songwriter. And he is also a very special live performer. These are extraordinarily beautiful and superbly written songs. And, he is a ridiculously good artist. Its that simple. Watch this space...
