Alt Power Pop

A marriage of indie rock sensibility with arena rock appeal. Connected in the way that best friends, and great creative partners are, the chemistry between Jimmy and Angie is a pure alchemy seldom seen. And through this deep connection the music is born. Gazz have a sound that is all at once familiar and fresh with intimate vocals and melodic hooks that wont let go. Alluringly quiet and infectiously loud, they are unabashedly rock, hauntingly moody, unapologetically pop, and always absolutely honest in their delivery of well crafted, ultra-melodic and highly memorable songs that give voice to thoughts that weve all had, feelings weve all felt and dreams that weve all dreamt. Compared aesthetically to The White Stripes; Smashing Pumpkins by way of their aggressive guitars, emotional nature and sometimes dramatic production; The Pixies catchy indie- pop sensibility and creamy/crunchy vocal combination.
Band/artist history
Just days before the dawning of a new millennium, Jimmy, singer/guitarist and songwriter of the band now known as Gazz, sat recording a group of songs (which would, a few weekends later, become Gazz debut independent cd release). He had recorded the guitars, piano and vocals and some drums, asking his roommate to add some final drum tracks. When he approached his second roommate to help with backing vocals, he never imagined that she would end up being, not only, the other voice of Gazz, but the bass player and his songwriting partner.essentially, his other half. As soon as they sat down to record the backing vocals, it became obvious that there was an undeniable musical chemistry between these long time best friends. The biggest surprise came when Angelia picked up a bass, at Jimmys suggestion, in a rehearsal studio in Silver Lake where he was recording his new project. I just felt really comfortable working with her and something clicked. I thought it would be so cool if she played bass. (Jimmy).Within hours, theyd tracked two songs and were making plans to go the next morning to buy Angies first bass. They recorded their self-titled release in four weekends at the borrowed studio in Silver Lake, releasing it soon thereafter. Very well received, it was named one of the top ten releases of 2000 by Mean Streets Ada Guerin (alongside Radioheads Kid A and David Bowies Sound And Vision). Its songs finished high in the alternative rock charts of Garageband.com (who also named Gazz as one of the top twelve bands in Los Angeles that year), and were reviewed very favorably by producer Jack Endino (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mud Honey) among others. The band worked hard, rehearsing, booking, gigging, promoting, writing and recording several independent e.p.s. They organized mini tours of Arizona and Baja California. Our first live show, my first time ever playing bass in front of anyone, was an impromptu stint with the house band in a Baja bar. It was a really small town and we actually caused a blackout the first night we played. Tthey fired up an emergency generator so we could finish the show. (Angie) The band have come a long way since then, licensing several of their songs to movies and television and are currently signed to Beejtar Records, and scheduled to record their follow-up cd at the legendary Shangrila Studios.
