Excess (aka Dustin Holder) was born and raised in the Queen City Charlotte, NC. Excess, born in 1985, was raised in a middle-class neighborhood in Southwest Charlotte. He grew up listening to everything from classic rock to punk rock to hip hop. Excess began his pursuit as a Hip-Hop artist in the Spring of 2004. Influenced by rappers such as two of the greatest to ever grace a stage or a Mic, Big L and 2Pac, as well as many others such as ,Notorious B.I.G.,Jay-Z, Shyne, Nas, DMX, The Roots, Wu-Tang Clan, Canibus, KRS-One, etc., he slowly watched Rap/Hip-Hop turn into "Hip-Pop", saw people sell out and watched everyone turn the Hip-Hop game into a joke. The techniques of Excess can be described as unique by many but you can form your own opinion. The music is about various topics from concious issues to how everyone has and still does think that Excess is crazy for doing what it is he does. Excess also in corporates some of the hottest beats into his music which produce club bangers that are easy to move to.
