Blues guitarist John Edmonds and Vocalist Tosh Yates first met in the 60's when they were doing sessions for the BBC and playing the club scene in and around London. A chance meeting 25 years later has brought together a musical collaboration likely to appeal to blues fans of every generation. Edmonds guitar work is thoughtful and inventive taking time to insert twists into his tuneful solos rather than cramming each bar with pre-rehearsed scales played at 90mph. Yates sings like he means it which judging by his thought provoking lyrics, he probably does. His voice sweetened/damaged by cigarettes, alcohol and one night stands, still has the power to belt out a rocker or make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck dur ing a tale of broken relationships. Their music is the music we like, no clichés, no woke up this mornings, just music from guys who have paid their dues. I've just listened to a rough mix of Essex Blues and I feel 20 years old again.
