asks Jared a few questions...
You don't bug me at all. I enjoy your company,
especially in the mornings when it is slower and I
have no one to talk to. The people who bug me are the
thugs that are like, "Yo, what's crackin.' Any good
raves this weekend?" They don't care about our scene
and I don't dig their vibe.
Yeah, I walked 2000 miles, solo, and it took 4 months.
I grew up backpacking and mountain climbing. I think
I just needed a change. Berkeley Engineering School
was enough to make anyone want to run off into the
wilderness for a while. It was crazy though, a great
time. A day on the trail is the mental, physical, and
emotional equivalent to a week of regular life. I was
averaging a marathon every single day. I learned how
to be content with only 10 lbs. of material
possessions. I made friends with a chipmunk, and saw
5 rattlesnakes in one day! The environment changes as
you pass through it. Your senses are attuned to the
Earth, it sounds cheesy, but you connect. Nothing is
external.
Oh man,... lets see. I had dreds in high school back
in 1996. When I met Mars and Mystre they both had
short dreds. Mystre cut his off. Uphonic dreded his
hair in 98 I think. Dyloot has had dreds a little
over a year I think, not quite 2. I don't know for
sure about anyone else, you should probably ask them.
As far as "special DJing power" I don't know about
that. Mystre said he had a lot of memories and energy
associated with his dreds. It's not really something
I've ever talked about before. But other DJ's that
do, or have had dreds include: Josh Wink, Charles
Feelgood, Madam Zu, Vajra, Polywog I think, Gannymede,
and a bunch I don't even know about.
Vegan: Strict Vegetarian. No dairy, many people also
don't eat honey, yeast, or wear leather. It is a way
of distancing ourselves from the exploitation and
cruel treatment of animals.
Sort of? The logo design is an amalgamation of
symbols from different religions, faiths, and
ideologies. It combines the Native American Circle of
Life, the Christian Cross, the Jewish Star of David,
the Taoist Yin-Yang, and the Astrology Zodiac. I have
considered adding a Celtic Triad, or a Pagan Pentacle,
but I think it is fine for right now.
The fliers with natural landscapes were inspired from
the Quest fliers that Silverpearl used to do. I liked
the idea of using images almost like a post card. It
is liberating to see open land, serene environments,
and natural scenes that seem mystical. So many people
spend so much time in the urban concrete space. How
exciting to see the beautiful areas of other lands.
You can almost be transported there just by looking
into the flier.
If I can keep doing it this way I will. I lost a few
hundred dollars on the water bar at the last show. I
still think it was worth it though. Dancers need
quality water at an affordable price. Most of our
body weight is from water, it is essential to your
health to stay hydrated. It is evil to charge $3 for
a bottle of water. At the massive shows they even
keep the bottle cap so people have to drink it right
there. Some people are only motivated by money. How
sad. You can't take it with you. When you look back
through your life will you care how much money you
made from ripping off dancers who desperately need
water to stay healthy? I do these shows because I
love so many aspects of our scene. The beautiful
music, the smiling dancers, everyone assembling to
share a moment in time, that's what makes it worth
doing. The drugs, the thugs, the dealers, the
consumerism, the ego trips, drama, and other
destructive forces are all eating away at our scene
and it is very rare to feel that vibe at shows
anymore. I want to start doing even more connected
shows, underground, drug free, invite only. No
hassles, just healthy, positive, and connected. I

It's funny, some girls really like the dreds, some
don't. It's like there are two types of people.
Reminds me of a joke. There are two types of people
in this world. Those who believe there are two types
of people in this world, and those who know better.
Hehe.
A while ago I was interviewing for a job and they were
like, "Great, you're hired, all we need is for you to
cut your hair." It really pissed me off, wasting my
time like that. People should be more concerned with
what's inside your head, not what's on the outside of
it. And as far as that special girl, I don't know?
I think sharing a similar ideology would be one of the
