African Chiquito ..( remix ) !! African Chiquito ..( remix ) !!
the remix, just thot i'd come from a different angle on this one. I couldnt lose the flute element tho,..that made the original track. just a bonus, maybe single material if this track makes it.
"I've been involved in music from as far back as i can remember. I went to the clubs alot as a little kid so music was a strong part of my childhood. Growing up in the peaceful streets of kaduna (in the northern part of Nigeria) also helped in the careful and delicate creation of "the mind"....the greatest weapon."
Eldee spent most of his childhood in kaduna, Nigeria, where he attended AWA nursery school, Command children school and Essence international school. After high school education, he moved down to Lagos to join the rest of his family and studied architecture in the University of Lagos. A graduate of architecture with a professional attitude towards life in general, Eldee can bring you into his world of creativity in an effortless manner.
Eldee has been rapping since 1992. With time, hard work, persistence and dedication, the little art form of creative poetry became a part of Eldee. Over the years, rap became more and more accepted by the mainstream African audience and soon became a force to reckon with. With the likes of Eldee on the frontline, the battle to put Nigeria and especially, Africa, on the hiphop map grew thicker over the years. From making demos and trying to get airplay by all means, to taking it to the professional studio level, Eldee had to make it work to prove his point.
As a high school student, without any prior knowledge of music production, Eldee put pieces together and made music. Today, Eldee is one of the most versatile producers on the westcoast of Africa. Eldee has put out albums which have done extremely well in terms of acceptance. The blend of African rhythms and the basic hiphop bounce keep Eldee's joints on point! Sometimes you need to ignore the lyrics and enjoy the sound. Many believe Eldee is one of the strongest revolutionary hiphop forces in West Africa because only his works and a selected few others have been able to command the respect of an international audience.
Trybe Records was concieved by Eldee in 1998 and has sinced signed seven artists with eight albums to its credit. "Trybe Gear", the clothing line is also in the pipelines.
Eldee hopes to be remembered as the one of the pioneers of Hiphop in Africa and intends to make sure the African voice remains as loud as to be heard and respected all over the planet.
Band/artist history
Understandably, hip-hop bridges the gap between generations, because it's perhaps the one genre of music in which the past is always present. There's such a reverence for history in the music. The music reflects the reality of life in the streets and of the youth and is probably the most message oriented kind of music around today.
In a bid to bring the African hip-hop heads closer home, the music has been made to reflect African lifestyles. Trybe Records is hereby proud to present to you, the greatest rap/hip-hop phenomenon in Africa, the trio of Eldee, Kaboom and Freestyle, the "TRYBESMEN".
"The What"...
Eldee and Kaboom attended the same high school in Kaduna, a state in the northern part of Nigeria, and started rapping in 1992. They were at it till 1994 when they both relocated to Lagos in southwestern Nigeria where they met Freestyle. Freestyle had started rapping only a year before the hook-up but sounded very much like he had been at it for much much longer. Their hook up was through a friend who thought they had similar styles and felt they needed to do a duet. At the time, it was all about demos and talent shows and soon as they became a trio, they thought a trial recording was worth it. They recorded two tracks that soon became anthems in their university in Lagos and the TRYBESMEN became a very popular name to all campus hip-hoppers.
At this point, the TRYBESMEN were not very sure of how well the rest of Lagos and Nigeria at large was ready to receive the dose of hip-hop they had to offer so they recorded and released a single on radio. The release was a huge success in terms of radio requests and radio charts, also in terms of the kind and number of gigs at which they performed. For a new group on the music scene, the TRYBESMEN were accepted by both the older and younger generation. The music was so rich and full of African rhythms that the TRYBESMEN performance soon became a "must see" at all the concerts. Mainstream hip-hop was redefined by the TRYBESMEN to create the perfect blend between rap and African rhythms and is sure to blow the mind of any listener on either side. The creativity of the instrumentals (which are produced by Eldee) and the rendition of vocals Afro-style is so amazing and is definitely what puts the TRYBESMEN ahead of any of their kind in the music industry.
The first single "Trybal Marks" was dropped in July 1999 and the second "Shake Bodi" in September of the same year. Both singles made smashing debuts at number one on radio charts and have since become anthems in Nigeria. "Shake Bodi" has also received massive airplay and love in South Africa and Ghana and is very popular to most Nigerians living abroad. The record label was put together by the group with Eldee as the chief executive officer and has since after the success of the TRYBESMEN, signed on seven other artists. Months after the album "L.A.G style" came out, a lot of other hip-hop groups have had an element if not a direct lift of the new style created by Trybesmen.
Not only has the album been a huge success for the record label but a new beginning for Afro-hip-hop, the newest genre on the world music map. Ever since the release of the album, the TRYBESMEN have been on heavy rotation on all radio stations nationwide and no concert or show has been complete without a rendition of the two hits "Shake Bodi" and "Trybal Marks". The group performed an outrageous 53 shows between September 1999 and September 2000. Trybesmen became a household name both home and abroad in the African circle.
Trybesmen went on to tour europe in 2003 doing an outsnading number of gigs and promo appearances on radio and TV.
The members of Trybesmen are currently embarking on solo careers but remained strongly tied by what most regard as the voodoo of performance.
Artists on Trybe Records have also done big things in west Africa. 2shots dropped an album in 2004 which didnt just go gold (500,000) copies in Nigeria alone but has become one the hottest CDs on the airwaves. Sasha, the female artist from the camp has also been nominated for the famous 2004 KORA AWARDS (African version of the grammys) held annually in South Africa. DeL and Sid are currently recording respective albums in the UK and are definitely keeping the Trybe Records torch aflame.
