ELAVI

Elavi is the mind behind SPR (Sonic Prophet Records). His record company set up to release independently his growing music catalogue. Multi-instrumentalist, singer songwriter and rapper, wrote, recorded and produced his debut album soul science in the summer of 2007. Playing all the instruments and laying down all the vocals himself. Elavi holds the belief that music, in particular, hip hop has become so fragmented in terms of an art form and that the album no longer truly represents the artist. In fact, the modern album that has so many featured artists on it can sometimes distract from a pure vision of the artist. Soul Science was the result of Elavi’s dogged determination to carry an album entirely on his own to stand as a testament that the artist is still here and has a view and a voice independent of this producer driven era. The 17 track album was also unique in the grime driven UK environment in that it struck the note of a futurist artist with old school sensitivity. Old school in the sense that he went for the concept album rather than going for the radio hit or club anthem instead it plays like a journey into one mans soul, hence the title Soul Science. The idea of the rap artist has been solidly ingrained in the consciousness over hip hop’s 30 some years, since its inception in the projects of New York. Elavi expands this idea to once again encompass the musician to the standard concept of the rap artist as solely lyricist. Feeling that it has become to easy to just buy a beat to fill an album Elavi crafts his own deeply knowing that for an artist to find his own sound he must test and experiment with his musical palette. If Soul Science is anything to go by then a new sound has arrived that tips a hat to past musical legacies like funk and soul but forges a unique and organic identity of its own. In terms of performance Elavi virtually stands alone amongst the vast hip hop community and prides himself that instrumentation is integral to live shows as well as studio work and has said many times that “the stage is where it really counts, the honest interaction between artist and audience is what I live for ”. There are many that chase the musical life for the fame or an idealized lifestyle but for Elavi the stage is the culmination of the long hours of rehearsal and creation to find the oneness of music or as he says to “put you in the zone”.

Waking up like NEO and relalizing creation and music is the key to set me free no other history matters. Well not for the purpose of this profile at least.

Yeah. Anywhere i can from the streets to venues. I am at present taking over the streets to bypass middle men from hell. You know sort, cheap suites, metalic looking ties, tight flies tighgter wallets, no brains insane in the membrain. But nice guys really if they stay the f@#k out my life lol.
