Hey! My name is Dylan Thomas, and i'm a singer-songwriter based in Sydney, Oz.
I've been playing live around for about 3 and half years now. I've spent most of my time playing at open mic venues and different clubs, and over the past year or so, have moved into playing clubs more. I guess the style of music i play is pop. But i add alot of different ingredients into my songs like jazz, blues, folk and rock. I've released two EP's both of which i lauched at 'The Brass Monkey' - a little club near where i live. I released my first EP 'Grace to Begin' nearly 2 years ago now, which i recorded on my own in my bedroom. I sure learnt alot from that! My second EP 'Pieces of an Overhead View' i released about 6 months ago, and launched the EP with a full band! which was alot of fun. It was produced by a very talented friend of mine Lindsay Rimes from 'Songrimes Studio' who is based in Surry Hills. I grew up listening to bands like the smashing pumpkins (first band i ever liked - 'mayonaise' was my favourite and still is), pearl jam, STP, hendrix, u2 and the counting crows to name a few, and oh yeah, creed too (it took courage to admit that). Lately i've been really into guys like Jamie Cullum, Coldplay, John Mayer, Lior, Rufus Wainwright. Well i hope you enjoy my music, thanks for stopping by and checking it out.
I play live about once a week. Though i wish it was more. I generally play at places like coogee, cronulla, inner city suburbs like surry hills... i also recently played at fashion week in circular quay. Hmm, special moments? Well, i've played some really satisfying shows in my time. Along with that i've had to play some nightmare ones too. I've had lit cigarettes thrown at me, and told to pack up my stuff because no-one cares. That was a good day. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
Jamie Cullum, John Mayer, Coldplay, Josh Pyke, Pete Murray, Rufus Wainwright, Smashing Pumpkins, Counting Crows, Pearl Jam, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye... theres more, i just can't think right now.
I have a fender strat, fender supersonic amp (which i literally creamed my pants over when i bought it) a maton acoustic... and a gibson les paul classic. Not much of a pedal guy, got a delay and eq.
I don't and cannot ever imagine myself throwing/smashing one of the guitars i own. I get a connection with them, and i feel like i'm abusing something thats been good to me. Is that a weird thing to think?
