I started with Lines of oppression Reagae band,as a percussionist ,slash political poet! with Zeke Zagar ,son of Famous artist ,Isaiah Zagar, we did Monster shows, and killer partys, with bands like, the goats, and shelter, x youth of today, FatHead,Tree of Life i also Played percussion with Chris treece, Brother of Chuck treece.in a band called the African liberation front. and I also Played Percussion in the band Brother Grimm With Mike Roi and sound man Kenny G, Leo ho, Mike Gardner, ...........I learned Real roots rock Reggae from the Dub Warrior A.K.A Timi Tanzania, as his drummer for years! that was military DUB WARRIOR! like a dreadlock boot camp... I got, to play on songs like Ganja Dub, and his anthem No guns ,with a mad amount of musicians like Ron,Betty Oded Freid . on bass burt cooper, chuck treece,Troi Baskette, on saxophone Aldo Disteffano, and Carlos Orapeza, on guitar. and Famous vocal coach to the stars Owen Brown on violin, josh stahl ,Troy Williams, and many more I got to open for bands like Burning spear, Black uhuru, Lucky dube, Krs1, the Last poets, Jah Levi ,Ras Pidow, Dub syndicate, and many moreas well as playing drums for the Dubway Reggae band as well as be the link for bands Like momsug dojo, now Warclub, to get theyre start on stage. and i use to sit in with the Roots when they were the square roots on 5th and passyunk off south street Down town philly in the early 90s ! and i used to ryme dance hall style with two beat box guys. rich mouth sanford, and now famous, Music soul child,as well as played djembe and taught classes at out of africa in down town philadelphia! then I heard portishead and massive attack! Trip hop ! and Goldie,s Timeless album I started producing Like a mad man! making track after track and soon came Dub shido! dub trip hop, a 3 peice with sean dade,and aldo dub step,disteffano we got 2 female singers and became saigon slimm, short for sean, laurie, ihba, and mike! that fell off after internal dating, and negative minded people mashed up the vibes! saigon grew strong with out me! and i still supported it! it was good to see my freinds take many beatings and rise above all obstacles! so i started sirious beta with the two singers a girl freind at the time ! and her freind sara , we hung out with a couple of creepy producer types. who were so hungry for a gorrilla style beating! i can still smell em' maybe still today ! a punch right in the eye!but I lived in the Warehouse district of North philly so a few years later I started the sinister Mr Ihba, a Danchall Reggae based punk rock attitude High Karate type shit .with Dj Bangladesh solo a.k.a Drunken gypsy and herb from fat head and Anam Owili-Eger ,With variuos bands. when i could afford to pay top dogs ! I opened for 2 Live crew last year at 218. with Maxx, and Shawn Smooth' of the Goats Fame. !some times we dressed up in suits and did las vegas style dance hall i called it Leroy Las vegas with show girls huge back drops this all started when a booking agent named Dave Levine offered me a show with a month to prepare he saw me play with Danny wood from new Kids on the Block doing my M.C style and I put together some church and studio musicians that session with many of phillys Larger main streem artist. I stopped doing shows and went home to create DUBB SMITH!!!!!!!!Band/artist history
DubSmith IS MY ULTIMATE SOLO PROJECT ! taking 70's style Dub that i produce mostly alone. I did have help on Anthem by the wonderful O Hi Fi .But the basic idea was to take 80's synth, and 90's testosterone, and darkness with new millinnium flavor, to step up and share my love of Dub music with all Irie eye fan base and Hex the internet and zap the Ear hole Pure DUBBTOLOGY Peace and love !
