I started out when i was 13 making cheap dance songs on "Dance Ejay2" did that for about a year or so. got tired with it so i looked for better software and found Fruity Loops which is now FL Studio and been using that ever since, found more and more software and got Cubass as well and some other stuff

Software: Fruity Loops, FM7, Pro 53, Wave Pad, Cubass, EVM Vst's, and lots of samples
Hardware: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! sound card, Peavey Unity Series 1000 8 Channel Mixer, 120 gig external HDD for good backups, Pioneer amp, and cheap moniters (but there not that bad), cheap midi keyboard (its really bad)
