Dogghead are Joe Ray, Brian Binmore and Dave Wesson. The live line-up seems reasonably settled at Ray: drums, Binmore: bass and Wesson: guitar but recording roles switch between them in unpredictable ways.Band/artist history
The band was founded in 1999 at the instigation of Ray who challenged a group of people to form a group to play at a Millennium party in Hemel Hempstead, UK. Of those that accepted, soon only Wesson remained. Meanwhile, Binmore operated as an acoustic singer-songwriter, more heard about than actually heard.
As a duo, Dogghead performed sporadically before making two albums, "Zero" in 2001 and " After Birth" the following year. On the second record, they performed one of Binmore's songs "Mad At You" in a radically revised manner from his original version. At the same time, Wesson co-produced Binmore's solo album "November Child" and both he and Ray appeared instrumentally on it.
This cross pollination led to Binmore joining the band for their third CD "That's the Difference... Between You, Me & Him" which was aptly-named. Its 13 diversely-styled songs (all Dogghead albums have 13 tracks) were divided almost equally amongst the three band members with no settled instrumental responsibility and vocal duties apparently assigned at random. Despite this, it is, of course, an unalloyed masterpiece...
After increased live activity during 2005 and 2006, Dogghead are currently in the studio working on their fourth CD, supposedly to be titled "Sanity Towel". Song titles such as "Song for Jane", "Square One", "Know My Own Mind" and "Kick Me When I'm Down" are rumoured, but for now the world must wait...Have you performed in front of an audience?Sure we play live -- wherever we can. Wherever we can fool people into letting us. We've played charity concerts, barbecues, house parties. Twice we've played to over 300 people. We've even been paid occasionally...
