DJ Symptoms
DJ/Drummer/Turntablist/Producer
My entry to Round 3 of the 2009 DJF Scratch Tournament.
"DJF Scratch Tournament Semi-Finals vs Pontus" by producer DJ Symptoms is a striking Rap release available on SoundClick. Featuring turntable and scratching, the production has a distinctive and cohesive sound. The beat is carefully crafted, the leading melody floats effortlessly around the bass rhythm. DJ Symptoms is an independent artist on SoundClick, releasing Rap music directly to fans worldwide.
Another battle from DJForums vs Cyrus. Fast scratching over a fast breakbeat, I think it's the Plump DJ's remix of "Shiver" by Lee Coombs.

This was a three way battle from DJForums.com, I placed first and Neks placed second. At the moment I can't remember who else was in on this battle, it was a while ago. I used "Stand By" by the Scratch Perverts for the beat.
Beats producer DJ Symptoms presents "DJF Battle vs Neks", an instrumental track released on SoundClick. The sound is shaped by turntable and scratching, giving the song its signature feel. The way that the driving bass, the beat pattern, and the melodic elements are working in sync is marvelous. Listeners into Hiphop, Hop and Dnb will find this track a natural fit within their rotation.
A scratch battle from DJForums.com vs Pontus. I used a Biggie beat and scratched a sample from Superbad.

My parents made me take a reading course in eigth grade at Sylvan Learning Center because my dumb ass couldn't read. They said if I tried hard, they'd buy me a set of turntables. I tried, and they bought me turntables. They were mad shaky, $100 Gemini turntables, thrown together with a $30 mixer in to a "Starter Kit" for like $250. How that is a deal, is beyond me. They were belt-driven and had shitty generic cartridges, which made them impossible to scratch on. Somehow I pulled it off, and even DJ'd dances and such at local schools. Before any of this, I had been using the computer to manipulate sounds and make beats. Once I got turntables I felt like a real DJ. This gave me the motivation to actually put some money and effort into it, and get established. I have a decent selection of beats now, with more on the way.
Whenever the opportunity presents itself. Basically, it has to be worth it. It's a hassle to pack up my turntables and move around doing little shows. So in order for me to put in the effort, there has to be some incentive.
Primus, RJD2, Led Zeppelin, DJ Shadow, Notorious BIG, DJ Qbert, The Gorillaz, Poison The Well, D-Styles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, James Brown, X-ecutioners, Mars Volta, you know that type of shit.
