DJ PHAZE (Northeastern, Ohio, USA) I grew up in the early days of hip-hop and my friends were into breakdancing and rapping, I was too fat to breakdance and couldn't rap worth sh!t, so I started DJing in jr. high school after being intrigued by the video of Herbie Hancocks "Rock It". Seeing Grandmixer DST scratching for the first time blew my mind. We had an old record player in the house and I gave it a try and found that I was pretty good at it and my interest grew. After years of working with the most basic equipment available, I finally was able to take to to the next level and now you got to see for yourself how I do my thing. The new technology available to us today was unimaginable to us just a few years ago. This is the best time in my life to be a DJ, especially a hip-hop DJ/Remixer, because hip-hop is finally accepted by the masses. If you are in the Northeastern Ohio Area Check me out live @ "The Penny Lounge" (Ashtabula) on every Friday & Saturday night, or "Buffalo Wild Wings" (Ashtabula) on Thursdays. Also check out my remixes being played on XM Satellite Radio (XM-80) and by other DJs across the nation.
Your musical influences
Style
Performance DJ and Live Remix Artist. Styles vary upon the event, (no limit, no catagories). I've done it all from Hip-Hop/Urban, Rock, Turntablism, Progressive, Rave, Reggae Sound Clash and Latino. Anything goes as long as I'm feelin' it and it rocks the party. My upbringing was very culturally diverse and it reflects in my music.
What equipment do you use?
Equipment / Software
2 Technics SL 1210 MK2 Turntables with, Chrome Dec Plates, Mattech Slip Mats, Stanton Head Shells and Shure M44-7 Needles (This is the ultimate way to hook up a set of 1200s and they don't skip at all). My mixer of choice is Numark's Matrix 3K (with a Pioneer EFX-500 and an Alesis Ineko daisy chained for effects) I also use an Akai S-20 on channel 3 for samples and loops. My CD turntables are 2 Numark CDXs (which are by far the best dj tool ever created) and 1 Denon DN-S5000. Software used is Sony's Acid Pro 4.0 and Soundforge 6.0. Most of my remixes are made with both software and hardware. (For live performances I use Mackie and Yamaha PA cabs & subs and several different laser and intelligent lighting effects.)
