MELODIOUS MALICE WITH IDEAS TO SPARE
DEATH METALS melodic contingent have become so
polished in recent years that its easy to forget how
abrasive and edgy bands like Dark Tranquillity sounded
when they first emerged from the Swedish underground.
Whether through sheer bloody-mindedness or financial
necessity, Desolation are clearly trying to transport
us back to those heady days when an intuitive,
wide-eyed rawness and a healthy obsession with
Maiden-like guitar harmonies drove this genre along.
The inspired melodic breakdowns and snatched glimpses
of acoustic frailty that pepper The Real Of The
Witching Moon and Blindsight suggest that the
bands progressive instincts will ensure a swift rise
to prominence.
