Industrial

Cold gothic industrial music, with some musical twists and twisted music. Although in existance for a very short time, Jen Rhines and Steven West created quite a buzz in the mid '90's. Rhines' unusual lyrics and voice coupled with West's gritty arrangements and production were set to make some major contributions to the industrial/goth scene in Toronto and beyond. At the last minute, Steven West declared he was uncomfertable with the whole scene and sound and Demon Gap was immediately folded. Rediscovering the original master tapes, Steven West has remastered many of the tracks and shelved material into a quasi compilation mix here known as Failure To Communicate. Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Demon Gap in 2022.
Band/artist history
After working with Jodi Krangle trying to reinvent the pop sound and get more ethereal with, it was by recommendation I meet with Jen Rhines. Definitely into the more electronic and experimental side of things. Heavily into the industrial and goth lifestyle at the time, whereas I was more into 'shoe gazing' and hip hop. At the time, I thought I was just ripping off Nine Inch Nails or Front 242. But in retrospect now, I see how Jen and I somehow fused a medieval and melodic maelstrom that was actually pretty unique.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
A total studio project for the most part. But interesting clubs and characters along the way.
Your musical influences
Skinny Puppy, Severed Heads, Front 242, Throbbing Gristle, Delirium, The Residents. My Bloody Valentine, Public Enemy
What equipment do you use?
A crapload of keyboards, a plethora of pedals, and the lowest of the 'lo-fi' gear one could get their hands on.
Anything else?
Hopefully the music isn't too 'dated', and still has a place in the industrial catalog? Also of possible interest for fans of The Group of 77 and/or Steven West solo material, also found at SoundClick.
