First Contact First Contact
This song is part of a proposed concept CD called Transformations. The CD is a 'spiritual autobiography' tracing my various positions with the divine throughout my lifetime. This song expresses that first contact with Spirit when I was a young man.
Dark Night of the Soul Dark Night of the Soul
Dark Night of the Soul (or lamentations of a reborn ego) David C. Deal, Ph.D. drde@defnet.com February 15, 2007 'Every experience of the numinous is experienced by the ego as a loss'. (Carl Jung) This song is part of a 'concept album
Dr. Deal released his first CD, "Harmonic Space", in 2005. This CD includes original music and a 25 minute meditation procedure designed to induce sleep and to counteract anxiety.
In 2008 he released the "concept CD", "Transformations". This work uses jazz, rock, Broadway and progressive rock music to convey, as honestly as possible, various spiritual struggles and experiences. As a "concept CD", many experience "Transformations" as a "spiritual vessel" which helps carry them into a deep, personal journey. Others simply enjoy the intense emotional honesty expressed through individual songs.
Dr Deal resides in Ohio where he is a practicing Psychologist. He currently plays in several bands including a Trans-Siberian Orchestra tribute band named Siberian Solstice, (www.siberiansolstice.com), and a contemporary church band. He recently finished a four year stint in a Pink Floyd Tribute Band named One of These Daze.
He has been blessed with the friendship of many excellent musicians who offered their talents on these recordings Some of the gifted musicians include Les Brooke, Tom Hanna, Tim Vargo, Andrew Vargo, William O'Connell, Cynthia Lugo, Russ Notestine, Andrea Bok, Arthur Kills Straight Putnam, David Coonrod, Ned Clark and Kevin Peters.
"Transformations"-CD Statement: "Sometimes, in the midst of a perfectly ordinary day, one is unexpectedly flooded by the magnificence of what is. Perhaps that moment of awareness and clarity arrives while watching a storm or absorbing a piece of art or kneeling with intention in a church. If blessed, echoes of the past and visions of the future fade from existence as the unknowing silence of the infinite present emerges. With patience and grace, one comes to know the incredible richness of what is as a revelation of Gods face and the mind is forever transformed into a mirror of creation."Have you performed in front of an audience?I play in a Trans Siberian Orchestra Tribute band called Siberian Solstice. I also play in a contemporary church band.

This is on the dark side of the moon David!! Sounds great with awesome instrumentation. The vocals are spot on for this piece. Very nicely arranged and a great mix.
Peace and Blessings, John
David, This definitely has a First Contact feeling to it. Great instrumentation, vocals, arrangement and mix. Epic in proportion and very intriguing sound. Very nicely done.

Thank you David.
If life gets out of the way and I don't get IN the way,it becomes as natural as can be.
Things to be said, songs need writing,in needs out.
First Contact...
Ah,I remember this form Mix.
As you know by now,I rarely do the conventional review,I tend to let my mind wander till it finds what seems to be important within the song.
And of course,it's that contact.
I'm not sure that I have had that,or maybe that I have not stopped having that....
I think it just depends to where my mind is at the time of the question I guess.
I also get the strong sense that this is,perhaps rather obviously,of paramount importance,an unforgettable part of the whole.
I wonder how that makes you feel about everything else?...
Beautiful and powerful song.
Completing fitting the subject matter.
