DATA:BASS began as a weekly night in September 2002 at Shots Bar with DJ's Terraform, Romantech and regular guests Teddy Edit and Bobbylon playing casual, eclectic sets of predominantly Drum'n Bass with a bit of 2-Step, Hip-Hop, Dub and Breaks thrown about.
Taking it to the Ballroom in December 2002 we continued our weekly night unearthing a host of new talent to make up the core of the data:bass network massive: DJ's, Producers, Promoters, VJ's, Designers, Writers, Graffers, Photographers, up for it headz and the true intalex. DATA:BASS is the undergound D'n B scene for original ravers, true headz, DJs eager to show their skills and all the local producers creating their own sound.
After releasing four CD-R compilations on our 0474:8455 recordings label, taking the sound to the coast with the Transgression parties and out east with the PSC's Bassdrop gigs, onto the airwaves on Fleet 88.3 and Kfm 106.9, backing major new talent such as State of Mind and Kyren, we know we're doing something important.
As we strive to put on more exciting and challenging events Data:Bass continues to represent the supremacy of Drum'n Bass in one word: Spectrum - so join us as we go deep, through vibes funky, bouncy, rolling, cut up, tearing, teched out and sick all the way to the places most dark. DATA:BASS is all about a Good mix of good tunes and good people who love them.
We organise our own gigs and participate in larger events, drawing from our collective over 30 DJ/Producer's who play their own tunes amongst their favourite selections. Several of these members also perform live electronica also.
We got so wild one big new years festival that the security actually chased me off the stage for inciting the crowd and clambering about the stage.
Though we all share a respect for the cutting edge production of big name, dancefloor UK Drum'n Bass from across the spectrum, we differ so broadly in our individual interpretations of D'n B that our music consistently spills into ventures into Breaks, Downbeat, Experimental Electronica and Electro.
All of it. I mean, we got 30 guys. No, seriously . . . we are drawn to Drum'n Bass as the most technologically motivated genre of music so to varying degrees we all try to keep up with the latest music software though we do have one or two analogue "Black Sheep".
Come on down to our site, there's always a good coupla dozen tunes to download, + international D'n B mixes, information on our CD-R releases etc.
I am interested in networking with overseas headz
and producers, I know how many dudes there are out there making D'n B and electronica, I think honestly guys, until any of us get signed to an established, international label we just gotta push it hard, any which way. Peace
Keep it deep . . . Underground!
Bo Skeletor!
