Drawing from a special ground of musical flavors, Coffeeshop Conspiracies serves up a strong blend of steel-string rawness, rhythmic fury, and - adding sugar to the spice -, a generous helping of saxophone sweetness. These diversities make up the ingredients of their unique concoctions, meticulously brewed to stimulate. An impeccable, caffeinated live experience.
Formed in 2003 by long time friends and bandmates Paolo Rodriguez (guitar, vocals) and Mark Serrano (bass guitar) the duo began the search for a drummer that would fit the mix. The answer was quickly found in Paolo Manuel who's prog-rock and jazz influences we're exactly what the band needed. Drawing from musical influences such as The Dave Matthews Band, Ani Difranco, Bela Fleck and The Flecktones and The Police, the trio embarked on a songwriting journey to what they though would materialize into an album. Along the way, they picked up saxophonist Ronald Tomas, from the "Witch Doctors of Underground Jazz Improvization" or Wdoiji who gave the band a strong soloist and a rustic touch that softened up their sound.
However, creating an album was more challanging than anticipated given the band's limited resources and experience. Consequently, the band decided to take their music to the training grounds and started integrating itself into the local music scene. The constant rehersal and performance helped shape the musical identity of the band and established them among the music listeners in the Metro. The band recently picked up former Sound keyboardist Erwin Fajardo who's warm rhythmic piano filled in the empty spaces in the music producing a full powerfull sound.
