Chas "ChooK" (choo-ook) Derr, I write, record, mix, master, and producer music to today's standards. Hip hop, Rock, Funk, Soul, RnB, Pop......I love all genres of music and take what I can from each. As a music producer, keeping an open/diverse mind is very important when working with a wide variety of artists. I try bring the best out of each individual I work with and feel it reflects greatly in my work.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I do! I play in a band called Fuzzy G (artist title) and I produce all of his music. He was actually featured in the band that was formed on MTVs Real World DC, "Wicked Liquid". We play up and down the east coast, primarily in the DC, Maryland, Virginia area.
Your musical influences
Some of my biggest influences are the early rockers like Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Velvet Underground, and Santana but I never steered too far from funky cats like Sly and the Fam, Bootsy, George Clinton, Aaron Neville up to early 90s Tribe Called Quest, Nas, and Jay-Z. However, I am a drummer and have always loved heavy metal like Metallica, The Mars Volta, System of a Down, Nirvana and I was classically trained in school and listened to a handful of Bach, Mozart, Handel, etc.
What equipment do you use?
I produce all of my music in Pro Tools with reason via rewire. I have a digi 002 and a skew of mics; I record lots of live drums and guitar and mix all of my music with Waves and a few other select eqs/compressors.
Anything else?
I am very motivated and will not stop working until I make it to the top. I only look forward to working with bigger better artists and producers in the industry. Music is such an amazing art and with all the talent in the world a perfect collaboration for a number one hit is not so farfetched. I will work with anyone who is talented, motivated, and passionate about the music they're putting together, and with that I can promise that I will deliver the production you are looking for.
