Chairman Mao and the Five Year Plan is an Albany, New York based trio consisting of Hannah Sipe, a Spokane native and classically trained pianist with a penchant for inappropriate relations with her keyboard, Kate Moyer, a half self-taught, guitarist that fuses many different styles and lacks the ability to play music standing still, and Zach Lanoue, a classically trained, multi-talented drummer.
Chairman Mao and the Five Year Plan was founded in late 2003, when Hannah and Kate began playing instrumental pieces together. Soon, they desired more, and began looking for a drummer. They put up flyers requesting a “female drummer with influences such as Sleater-Kinney, Trillion Barnacle Lapse, Bikini Kill, Julie Ruin, The Blood Brothers, and Zombie Zombie.” Zach answered the ad. Chairman Mao and The Five Year Plan was born, and have being playing together ever since.
Our musical influences are vary greatly from member to member, but generally, we are influenced by Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, Julie Ruin, Zombie Zombie, Bangs, and Trillion Barnacle Lapse
