Afterburner Afterburner

'Afterburner' is a shameless Hawkwind-meets-Kyuss-meets-Monster-Magnet riff-fest. I used to play it live with the Hibachi Dealers when I lived in England.

Psychedelic Rock

Twa Corbies Twa Corbies

'Twa Corbies' is a 'folk-metal' version of a traditional Scottish border ballad. In it, two crows discuss their dinner vis-a-vis a slain knight. How metal is that!?

Psychedelic Rock

Formed in 1971 ;) Carl grew up on a musical diet of folk, jazz, and classical music, before succumbing to the heady glories of rock-and/or-roll in a teenage daze. Since then, he's played various instruments (badly) on several continents. Recently relocated to Bogotá, Colombia, he has mucking around in his (extremely rudimentary) home studio -- and, of course, is hoping to (re)connect with other musicians for collaboration, on-line or on-stage!
Band/artist history
There being no one in the "band" but me, it's a short history .... So I'll pad it out as an "artist history". I grew up playing classical piano and jazz trumpet, and taught (I use the word loosely) myself guitar on my dad's battered old acoustic (which, apparently, used to belong to James Taylor, grew up down the street from my dad). After university, I browbeat a bunch of friends in Boston, USA into forming a band -- we weren't very good players, but I still think we wrote some decent songs! That project started falling apart, and I quickly recorded a few songs that the band hadn't learned as a "solo project" shortly before heading off to the UK for grad school. Not the greatest recordings, but again I still like the songs. :) The drummer on my solo project had a all-improv, floating-lineup space-rock project with whom I managed to perform a few times in the US during the mid-'90s, and then again in 1999-2000 after I finished grad school. I then returned to the UK, eventually getting together with some friends in Cambridge in a new band -- which, yet again, wasn't terribly good musically (there's a pattern here ...) but I think did write some cool songs. And then, as that was falling apart, I relocated to Colombia, South America. And I here I sit, typing this! :)
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Sadly, I'm only a "home recording hobbyist" these days. Previously, I've played live with various bands in the US an UK. (The most interesting gig was ... probably one at the Strange Daze 1999 festival in Ohio! Far out!)
Your musical influences
Well then, for a start: Hawkwind, Blue Öyster Cult, Jethro Tull, The Grateful Dead, Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Gov't Mule, Monster Magnet, Kyuss, Amorphis, Santana, The Beatles, The Levellers, Mike Nesmith, Led Zeppelin, Fairport Convention, Bruce Dickinson, The Gathering, Pride & Glory/Black Label Society, (Transylvania) Phoenix, L'Ham de Foc, a bunch of Latin pop/rock, various 19th-century Romantic classical composers, Scandinavian folk-rock, piles of world music ... Dr. Teeth & the Electric Mayhem, of course! And lots more ....
What equipment do you use?
1992 Gibson Les Paul Standard (with Bare Knuckle Crawler pickups), 1976 Rickenbacker 4001 (with some weird pickups), Martin Backpacker Mandolin, a dodgy old Shure BBG2 mic, Apple GarageBand, Natural Studio ns_kit7 (drum samples), Doggiebox (software drum machine).
