A powerful-to-the-point-of-peircing style of Alt-Rock music that embraces listeners with everything from solid hard-edge rythyms to divine soft melodiesBand/artist history
Mike Olivieri and Steve Tevyaw have been playing together and writing songs for almost a decade now. When the time came to form a full band, Mike approached Matt Trotter and asked him to step in and start rehearsals with breathe. For awhile, breathe was playing shows and writing songs as a power-trio. After playing countless numbers of live shows in the greater Toronto area, breathe. played a show with the band Greg Phinney was the Lead Guitarist in. Right then, breathe. decided to expand. The trio asked Greg to step in and add some of his flavor and he accepted whole-heartedly. But before Greg had left his current act, breathe played another show with them. That show would change breathe. once again. Vince Sciara managed the bar the show was held at. After seeing the breathe. performance, Vince came up to the band and offered his home studio as well as his production ability to record an album. breathe. jumped on the opportunity to utilize a recording studio for no charge and began recording their self-titled debut full-length release. Through the production, Vince began adding backing vocals, keyboards and synth lines to the existing breathe. catalog. breathe. began to see the potential and asked Vince if he would join the group. Without any doubt, Vince accepted, but decided to hold off on live performances until the album production was complete. A majority of the album was already complete when Greg had joined full force. Greg began adding his flavor to the live set as well as to the album. Playing even more Live shows, the four-some was packing clubs and venues with an epic response. When the production on the album was complete, breathe. invited Vince out to play for the first time live. With a sell-out crowd at hand, breathe. blew away the audience with Vince's new keyboard parts, Greg's new lead guitar lines, and Mike, Matt & Steve's explosive rhythm section that had been developing for 3 years. From that moment on, the crowds, the response, and the sales started getting bigger. The sound, the energy, and feeling portrayed on stage can only be described as nuclear.
Through their own hard work, never relying on anyone other than themselves for promotions, recording, websites, merchandise, booking, management, or any other aspect of the band, they have been able to achieve a much greater level of success than most other independent acts. In the summers of 2000 & 2001, They scored opening gigs at sold-out shows with David Wilcox, and April Wine, both of which are major Canadian touring acts. In July of 2002, they released a full-length CD completely produced and recorded on their own. They have had radio play on major Canadian radio stations, as well were champions as voted by listeners on the All-Hit survivor on 95.3 EnergyFM beating out major Canadian Rap / R&B artist Choclair featuring En Vogue.
Loyal fans have been boarding chartered buses to attend out of town gigs and have volunteered their help in various capacities. Everyone that works with this band does it because they love the band and their music. You will never find a tighter group of friends and people working together to take breathe. to the next level.
With the current success of Canadian acts like Nickelback, Default, Matthew Good Band, and Finger Eleven, breathe. is making it's name known, and is working it's way to be the next Canadian act to achieve that same success.Have you performed in front of an audience? We play all over Southern Ontario, mainly in Toronto, Hamilton, and Burlington. We feel that live performance must outdo the recording you have, so yes we love it, and it is always special.
