A veteran of country music, Bobby Caraways career has spanned the entire second half of the twentieth century. Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas into a musical family, he began playing the guitar at a young age and quickly became proficient. Today, he is a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, the Traditional Country Music Hall of Fame, and the CMOA Hall of Fame.
Band/artist history
Bobby first hit the charts in 1959 when he wrote and recorded with his brother Terry, the now classic, Ballen Keen and Sweet Lies, which were recorded at Gold Star Studios and released on Crest Records. Sweet Lies reached the Top 30 in Billboard and Ballen Keen remains one of the best examples of the rockabilly style, reaching cult status among rockabilly aficionados worldwide. During his long career, Bobby has had many hit records in Europe and the United States. Some of his classics became a number one hit in Europe and Top 10 in the United States. are Dr. Jones, The Bear Walked Upright, and The Legend of Ernest Tubb, the latter of which became a number one hit in Europe and Top 10 in the United States.
Bobbys love affair with music has taken him into song writing as well as recording. He has written songs for Boxcar Willie (A Good Ole Country Song, and Im Not On The Bottom Yet), Doug Kershaw, and the late David Houston, just to name a few.
Bobbys unique style of rockabilly includes 50s and 60s rock by stars such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley and Little Richard, as well as his own rockabilly compositions.
Bobby was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in January 2000, as well as the Traditional Country Music Hall of Fame that same year. In October of 2001, he appeared at the CMOA Awards Show held at the Castaway Casino and Lounge in Las Vegas, where he received five awards, including CD of the Year for The Man from Texas. He was also inducted into the CMOA Country Music Hall of Fame that same night.
Bobby now lives near Austin, Texas with his wife, Jan. He has four children and six grandchildren.
