Blind Ignorance began in April/May 2004 with 13-year-old Will Daniels and Henry Dare beginning by recruiting local madman Joe as vocalist. At that time they had guitarist Dan Baker, but due to personal reasons (no one liked him) they made Mat Durkan join. With the four members now in place, they immediately got down to work on learning covers from the likes of The Ramones, Goldfinger and NOFX and before long the band had got themselves their first gig, at The Vic Inn, Derby. It was clear in this gig that the band were inexperienced, and looked very much like a band at their first gig, going through their favourite punk covers and few simple punk/rock songs. That was until the last song. The band finished their first set with their very own metal anthem Master The Plan. After this performance it was clear that the bands true purpose was to focus on this heavier more crunching sound. As the gigs went on, and the boys continued to write new material it was clear that the metal influences of Mat and Henry were having a great effect on the sound.
They then got in touch with recording studios within Derby and recorded there first five track EP containing there earlier styled material in late 2004.
With the band improving their performance, both musically and in terms of presence, and with Mat continuing to come up with the killer riffs around which the songs are based, Henri coming up with catchy lyrics and even louder screaming in the songs, the improvement was immense. Within months Blind Ignorance had gone from inexperienced novices, to astonishing audiences with their high-energy heavy metal shows. With Joe unleashing his insane antics onstage as well as backstage, the shows became more interesting. Some of his madness was shown at a school talent show where Joe came out wearing a kings cloak, a crown and his boxers over his trousers.
Blind Ignorance have now progressed from the song Master The Plan into playing heavy metal. They now play regular gigs in Derbyshire, Leicester and many other places around the midlands and usually get a strong crowd to every gig, with gig mentions in NME, Kerrang and newspapers. The Master The Plan EP was released in early 2005 and contained six tracks of Blind Ignorance material.With the tight musicianship, excellent individual performances, and superbly written songs, it gives an insight into what this band are capable of.
