The story of Blackfish is that of the working relationship of the three founder members;

In 1994 Dave and his wife Jen returned from a year spent in outback Australia , and brought with them the fruit of many long, hot nights spent under the stars with an acoustic guitar ( and copious quantities of alcohol); a collection of songs.

On return to their native Cornwall, they sought out like minded musicians to form a more or less acoustic band. Vocal harmonies were dominant in these early tracks, and among the other musicians involved in this project were Joe and Nina.

Nina's uncompromisingly rock style brought a tougher edge to the band, who went under the name of Smalltown.

A regular schedule of heavy gigging over the course of the next six years saw Smalltown grow into one of the most popular and respected acts on the Cornish scene, and provided the opportunities for the trio to hone their skills both on the live circuit, and in the studio.

Upon the demise of the band in 2001, the three moved together to a fast climbing outfit by the name of Naked feet, blending their rock sound with the driving folk tunes and strong songwriting of frontperson Julie Elwin.

Naked Feet took the three to Ireland and France on tour, and saw their first real pro recording sessions at the Sawmills residential studio.( www.sawmills.co.uk ).

Here they recorded the "Fire" EP, and a further three songs

It is at this point that Dave, Joe and Nina decided to pursue a project that had been on the backburner for a while, but that seemed to have come of age at just the right moment for the musical climate that still prevails.

Blackfish is a self managed, engineered and produced package, stemming from a long and fruitful musical writing relationship.

We play in all sorts of venues, and have played festivals in this country, and in Lorient, France.

Live shows are our raison d'etre.

We listen to stuff like Muse, Turin Brakes, Starsailor. Our influences are each other.
