Evolution of a Pop Musician
Billy London was created in London, England in 1978, when the American-born musician Billy Barth emigrated to Britain to embrace its pop-music culture. He recorded a single for RSO/Polydor in 1981, signed to the label by Ashley Newton, song : "Woman" produced by Nigel Gray. Video producer: Clive Richardson.
His songwriting has sources in his personal, political, and cultural life as an American and as an ex-pat living in Europe.
He became a citizen of the Hellenic Republic in 1996 and thus holds full European citizenship. Greek music is a great love and an important influence on his style.
Re-locating to Paris, France in l987, he has in recent years began to sing and compose in French, too, and has performed at several venues in France.
Yet his original music continues to be defined within the framework of "Brit-pop" and even as the personality of "Billy London enlarges to encompass ever-widening artistic influences, the spirit of the songs remains fixed to its rock and punk-rock roots."
