As a musician, I've played a wide variety of musical genres over the years, and I think that shows in the eclectic nature of many of my songs. And like so many other writers of my generation, I grew up listening to pop and still identify with that label as much as anything. That being said, I tend to believe that a lot of what I grew up thinking of as "pop" music is today probably more at home in the country family than anywhere else.
When I first decided to put some of my songs out for others to hear, I wasn't even sure how to classify my music, as far as what genre to call it, and as a result, I've changed that listing here several times, trying to figure out where is the best fit for me. That's where being "eclectic" can be a bit of a curse, but to me, the different musical styles are like colors in the pallette, and I would hate to think that I couldn't use a color, or in this case a sound, just because it comes from a style of music that I'm not generally identified with.
It's often fairly easy to identify particular styles, and sometimes even individual artists' influences within any one of my songs, but most of the time those influences change from one song to the next. That variety is what makes writing and recording interesting and fun for me, and hopefully entertaining for listeners.Band/artist history
I studied classical and jazz at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music in the early 80's, playing in rock and country bands to make ends meet along the way. I continued my life as a musical "whore" until quite recently, playing rock, country, funk, blues, jazz, folk, and top 40 sometimes as often as 5 or 6 nights a week while also working in area music stores in sales, repair, and as a private teacher, when I decided I'd had enough of the bar scene, and would prefer to hang out with my wife and kid at night.Have you performed in front of an audience?I played live around Kansas City, and throughout the midwest, for about 20 years, playing in cover bands in clubs and at various festivals. I've backed way off of that in the last couple of years, preferring to spend my time writing, recording, and hangin' with my family.
Your musical influences
It's nearly impossible to narrow this down to just a few, but at the top of the list would have to be Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Elton John, followed closely behind by Robert Cray, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Eric Clapton...and sometimes I have to admit it, Dwight Yoakum, Radney Foster, and Vince Gill.What equipment do you use?
I use pretty basic stuff really. I just recently got a new acoustic...an Epiphone EJ-200c which my family got me for my birthday. You can hear it on several new songs I've uploaded recently. My electric guitar is an old 80's shred monster...a Yamaha RGX1212S. My bass is the beast that served me well playing in bars for the last 15 years...a G&L Lynx. I do a lot of midi, for which I use a Roland keyboard controller, and some soft synths on my computer DAW.Anything else?
I guess as much as anything, you could say that my music is "pop for grownups". I hope everyone enjoys listening to it as much as I enjoy writing and recording.Contact

Hi Bill, really enjoyed your songs. I hear a lot of Clapton influence in both your guitar and voice. I'm a lot like you in that my songs don't really seem to fit one genre. I chose alternative country cuz i didnt know what it was.Keep up the good work dood! Michael
hey i'm listening to your Let Go of Yesterday song and I like it, the lead guitar work compliments the vocals so well. It really does sound Pink Floyd-ish.
