Sneaking into your pants like molasses with an attitude, Big Sir is a soulful, solid groove smorgasbord complimented with toy box nuance and subtle sonic humor. Seamlessly flowing from girl-group influenced harmonies and handclaps, to smokin' a fatty on a warm sunny day while cruising in a Cadillac, Big Sir will win both you and your mother over.
Band/artist history
Big Sir sauntered into the neighborhood when singer Lisa Papineau and bass player Juan Alderete discovered they both shared a taste for the mellow side of rock and roll while playing together in a band called Pet, who were on Tori Amos' label, Igloo Records. When Pet split up, they began writing slo-fi hip movers that not only stood on their own, but were easily adaptable to the dance moves they had picked up after years of touring and playing in Los Angeles clubs. Immediately after they began performing live, they found that they were being stalked by drummers, who would salivate as they stood in the audience bobbing their head in time to the drum machine. It wasn't long before Lisa and Juan found the perfect drummer in Troy, a talented beat keeper who understood exactly what big Sir was trying to convey musically and whose mix of electronic and organic drumming style added just the right tasty flavor to the tunes. Their self-titled debut CD is available now on Mootron Records (brainchild of Lisa's former Sissy Bar band-mate, Courtney Holt). Look out for special mix lean by Micky Petralia, whose recent credits include co-production of the Beck "Midnite Vultures" album.
