WELCOME TO BIG BABY'S WORLD!!!Band/artist history
In 1992, Tony Andre Davis, aka “Big Baby”, started banging out beats in his grandmother’s garage for rap artists in the neighborhood. At the time, he was attending Texas Southern University as a music major, a member of the world famous “Ocean of Soul” marching band and working part-time for Continental Airlines. One day, Bruce Lattin, a mentor that worked on UGK’s platinum hit “Tell Me Something Good”, approached Baby and asked him to work on some beats for a local rap talent that was becoming very hot in the Houston, Texas area. Baby agreed and the work began. While spending countless hours in the studio, Baby ended up quitting his job and focused more on the music that he was creating. Baby was learning how to engineer, produce, write and sing during his time in the studio. This laid the foundation for greater opportunities down the road.
Two years later, Baby met three guys who were singers and needed a track. Unfortunately, Baby had never done an R&B track and couldn’t really help them. So, Baby turned them on to Bruce Lattin who was an R&B producer. While the group worked with Bruce, he told them that they needed a fourth person. They didn’t have an idea of who they could find, so Bruce called Baby and the chemistry just flourished. The group was named “Publik Xposure” and they went on to amateur night at “Showtime at The Apollo” to win two out three appearances. This exposure opened a lot of doors for the group and for Baby as a producer. The host of “Showtime at The Apollo” at the time was Steve Harvey and he gave Tony the name “Big Baby”. The group began to receive deals from several major labels but, the independent label, Freeworld Records the group was signed to, didn’t want to release them from their contract. Consequently, the group disbanded and moved on to separate projects. Baby remained in the studio and earned the chance to work with the platinum recording group H-Town. Thusly, Baby started producing R&B tracks for local singers and this is when his talents started to really come together.
Currently, Baby has worked hard to mold his skills into something that has attracted a lot of attention in his new place of residence, Richmond, Virginia. Baby is constantly working with new artists and changing his style to help change today’s sound.
Baby’s current style is a mixture of “Down South Flavas”, Contemporary Jazz, Blues and Old-School Funk. Be on the lookout for something major from this rising producer.Have you performed in front of an audience? No.
