Funk

Formed in May of 2003, the concept of B Dub C goes back even further. Keyboardist and Musical Director, Kendrick Kirk had visions of a return to hip hop with a touch of the re-emerging funk sound. Upon his move to Boston, he immediately started forming an ensemble to play his charts and to help write new ones. Now fully formed, Best When Chilled has entered an era that is sure to turn heads in the Hip-Pop world: There is no need to rap about drugs and murder to be well versed in hip-hop. Each new listener of Best When Chilled will hear that every member is part of an equation that produces the Neo-funk/ Hip-hop sound. Starting with smooth rhymes, virgin ears to Best When Chilled hears the MC spitting effortlessly at speeds one would think would hinder enunciation. However, this is quite the opposite as the Arthur Inasi a.k.a. "MQ" excels at mach one rapping. In addition, his rhymes and rhythms will stimulate a body into undulation and provoke the consumption of alcohol. Hailing from the Island of Trinidad, MQ is an up and coming producer, vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist, and all around musician. Once a lead vocalist and guitarist in the popular Miami based band, Sons of You, he left the band to pursue higher education in music in Boston. With an eye on the future, and an open mind to all types of music, MQ continues the struggle to achieve in the music industry. The funky doctor himself, Justin Collins provides ostinati that funk has yet to encounter. His background in metal and rock capture Afroskull with some James Brown. Originally from Chicago, “JC” has had several appearances with local groups ranging from hip-hop to jazz. He also had a two year tenure in the Chicago based heavy metal band Subcyde. Currently, he has his attention on B Dub C, as well as the constant pursuit of musical knowledge. After hearing the flows and moving to the sticky funk of JC, this new listener feels the floor in B Dub C’s sound. Jonathan Ruppart played bass around New York with in the surf-influenced band Fledermaus in his early years. Later, in Boston he formed a progressive rock band called Kraven, and rocked the Boston bars with the cover band Hit Squad. By this time though, the Funk had taken hold. This led him to join the reggae/funk band Powaseed in the late '90's, and finally to Best When Chilled. Jonathan's love of low fat bass grooves, melodic fills and memorable riffs lays a solid base for the band's sound. Provisioning hellish rhythms down low often leads the other members to ask, “Where is [beat] one?” in rehearsal. These stunning bass lines more than complete the sound of this band; they add to JC’s guitar lines and thus making one wipe clean the saliva. Musical Director, Kendrick Kirk has assembled many bands in his short career. However, none match the skill, groove, and compatibility of Best When Chilled’s members. As a leader, Kendrick needs to say nothing as all members have the same goals and perceptions of B Dub C. As a keyboardist, Kendrick fills the layer between hard bass and drum grooves and MQ flows. After a year of rehearsals and tribulations, Best When Chilled has finally found that perfect sound - a sound designed from the beginning to target an audience that will appreciate it and move with it.
Your musical influences
Sound like Smokin' With Superman. Arthur sounds a lot like Sean Paul with better flows.
