Back in the mid '90s Bard of Ely, under his real name Steve Andrews, was very involved in the underground cassette culture and the world of fanzines. 2 people he was in very regular correspondence with were Syd and Lexi aka TUOB, who released FIS compilation tapes, ran a zine called 'Shoes of Quality' had a vinyl release on the German Very Good Records, and who turned out experimental music made up of samples, loops, backwards taping, 4 track recorder FX, vocals by TUOB and a Casio keyboard. This was lo-fi experimentalism and bedroom music taken to the extreme. The Bard and TUOB decided to do a joint cassette release featuring mostly their music and the Bard's poetry and vocals. Bard of Ely recorded his contribution on a Walkman and mailed it all down to Syd & lexi to do add their talents. Lexi actually sings a version of 'House of the Rising Sun' over the Bard's guitar, and also does a very unusual cover of his song 'Real Love and Communication.' Recently Viv Thomas has been helping the Bard get all his old cassette archives remastered on to mp3 format and here are some of the results!

Hiya Bard,
Been away from the site for three months doing some songwriting. I just had to come back and listen to your songs again cos i remeber how they made me sit up and listen!!
Beautiful Trees....now this is wild and far out. I don't know how you developed this one but is such a good listen!....
Aloha! BARD I heard beautiful trees? crazy man, crazy I went back and I have listened to all my olde four track cassys(olde and dusty) and i intend on re-recording all those old tunes on modern and state of the art equiptment and slamming them on the mighty web. . I also intende to never, never, ever, ever put any of my cassy tunes on the web at any time for any reason. thanks you , so much. The digital realm is so much. kinder to folkes like me. cut and splice and cut and paste is fun in digital-land. it's fun to re-record and capture the essence of the tunes again.
The queen is dead.
Long live the queen...
Thanks o mighty bardnik and steveo
me oh my oh
Thanx Deadwood for dropping by & it's great to hear from someone who remembers the 'old' days of cassette culture! ;) I'll tell Syd I have heard from you next time I write. He still lives with Lexi and still in West Mersea but hasn't done any music for ages.
Bard :)
