Babalon is a highly musical rock / industrial / electronic band, focused more on pushing the boundaries of both sound and thought than on fitting into one specific genre. Their style ranges from sweet and melodic, with soaring female vocals and almost classical acoustic guitar, to creeping noise, electronic sampling and an industrial crunch; from jazz and funk infused old school rock to hard hitting, head banging metal and everywhere in between. They’ve even been accused of having a “world” sound, with tabla rhythms and almost Celtic melodic overtones. But despite its eclectic nature, there is a consistent undercurrent to all of Babalon’s music; dark (but never jaded), guardedly optimistic music for the starved human soul. Originally formed by Scott, James and Sarah, Babalon began as a cross-country project between the three. Despite thousands of miles between them, there was an undeniable synergy. Babalon's debut, Descent chronicled the final days of the old dream - of the thoughts and hopes that had to be sacrificed so that Babalon could be born. At its completion, Sarah and James packed up and drove out to California to join Scott and move Babalon from their collective unconscious to the forefront of their lives.
Babalon creates all of its own media. We design our site, flyers, album, and record and produce them as well. And we intend to keep it this way, growing with our fans to become a truly multi-media experience. Being a fan is not a passive experience; Babalon challenges their audience to create and push their own boundaries. In place of the hero-worship today’s music world is saturated with, they encourage artistic communities and exchange. In listening to our music, and becoming a part of this movement, it becomes a part of you, and everything that you create.
