The 24 year old rapper got his start writing rhymes to pass time in high school and freestyling in the hallway. The Dallas rapper is known for straddling the line between mainstream/commerical rap and a more serious, lyrical form of hip hop.

A.T.G. was heavily influenced by things such as Ice Cube's 'don't give a fuck' attitude, Slick Rick's story telling tactics, Ludacris' wild and out-of-this-earth punchlines and the booming and uptempo tracks of earlier cash money and no limit songs. The storytelling influence is evident on and , a song the Texas-born rapper wrote about how he got his car.

On , A.T.G. weaves his real-life experiences with former friends-turned-enemies into a song with a message about watching the ones closest to you. With heavy subject matter like this and production reemniscent of early Mannie Fresh and Three Six Mafia, The "Prince Of Texas" takes listeners back to an earlier, not-so-commercial period of southern hip hop.

After being recruited by local radio personality Headkrack to battle at the weekly , A.T.G. honed his lyrical skills and punchlines by battling some of Dallas' most respected emcees.
"I wasn't originally big in the whole battling thing, and i never considered myself a battle rapper. It is good practice though", he laughs.
On and , his battle influence is evident in an array of punchlines referencing everything from UPN sitcoms to bodily functions in a rather unusual but hilarious method. Throughout his album, you could almost swear A.T.G. was three different rappers put together by how he bounces around between subject matter and styles in his songs in a way comparable to Outkast, Devin The Dude, or Tech N9ne.
