I create mostly unique instrumentals that feature alot of improvisation and off-the-cuff performances. Some are fast, some are brooding.

I am Aras Peter Ulenas, born on June 1, 1971 on Long Island, in New York. I grew up there, then went to college at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. You know, Knute Rockne, The Four Horsemen, The Gipper, Ara Parseghian, Lou Holtz...
After ND, I studied music at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Spent some time in the corporate world, hated it, then quit for good back in 1996. Since then it's been all about the music.
I'm also into writing fiction... that's my second love, but creating music holds a much dearer place in my heart.
Band/artist history
I started creating electronic jam music back in 1990, when I got my first MIDI gear - keyboard (Yamaha DX7s), sound module (Yamaha TG-33), sequencing software (Opcode's Vision 1.0), and computer (a Macintosh SE from 1985 - my sister's old one). This was when I was in college. I got a gig creating incidental music for a modern take on Shakespear's Julius Caesar at Notre Dame, but that's the only time something like that happened. Other than that, I've just been creating music for fun and the sake of polishing my craft, awaiting the day I can reach a large audience. As of 6.09, my fan base consists of about 30 people mostly friends and family.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I don't play live solo (yet), but I'm in a rock duo called Amber Flood, and we are currently playing Thursdays and Sundays at the Kahawa House Coffee Lounge, 838 W. Montrose, Chicago, Illinois...
Your musical influences
For this kind of music, I'd say my main influence is Jan Hammer, both solo and with the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
What equipment do you use?
Currently I use Propellerheads Reason 4 software, an HP laptop with Windows Vista, a KORG TR-61 MIDI controller/workstation/synth keyboard, a Midnight Wine Mexican Fender Strat, a KORG D1200mkII 12-track digital recorder, a Yamaha electric/acoustic guitar, and a AKG Perception 200 mic.
Anything else?
I hope you enjoy my music. If you have anything to say about it, I strongly encourage you to leave a comment - you can be totally honest with me if there's something you don't like about a certain song(s), I appreciate critical honesty more than anything when it comes to feedback. I can take harsh comments, it only makes me more talented in the long run.
THANKS FOR VISITING, AND COME BACK OFTEN!
Yours in Great Music,
Aras Peter Ulenas
