Maybe you've never heard of the young lady with the infectious sound, the swag to match and a smile that lights up a room, but your time has come. Chantel Hampton, is a singer, songwriter, producer and educator with a passion to create music that gets the world moving and singing, and to empower a generation that is searching for hope and inspiration.
Fated for success, this Boston native?s determined spirit materialized before high school, ?My dad is a musician so I grew up around all kinds of music, jazz, R&B, Gospel etc,? say Chantel Hampton. At age 9,
Chantel became the youngest member of a fifty-voice youth choir, which allowed her to travel throughout America and Europe performing before thousands. She began songwriting at twelve and developed a secret passion for journaling and writing poetry. ?I was in and out of the studio often because of the group that I was apart of but it wasn?t until I was fourteen that I decided that I was going to pursue a career in music and take it seriously,? say Chantel.
True to her words, Chantel decided to graduate high school a year early in order concentrate on perfecting her abilities as a songwriter and performer. By the age of 17, she had become a two-time winner of The Berklee College of Music?s National Songwriting Competition and had received a full-tuition scholarship to the institution. At 18 she was writing, arranging, vocal producing and engineering for national and international projects, which included Berklee College of Music & Mercy Corps, ?We Are All Connected? for the women of Darfur. She was named an ambassador for Berklee College and was sent to various high schools in America and in France. Between her genius with the pen and her flair behind the mic, Chantel found herself writing and recording for Bishop T.D Jakes? label, Dexterity Sound and Orpheus/Universal. Ms. Hampton also was privileged to share the stage with Sheila E, Anita Baker and The Yellowjackets.
Throughout her college career a deep passion grew in Chantel for empowering her generation as well as the next. In a pursuit to answer this passion, she began to speak, teach and sing for various youth conferences and organizations including The DeVos Urban Leadership Conference and Jeanne Mayo?s National Youth Conference. Over the past year, she was given the opportunity to write songs and lead worship for Ron Luce & Teen Mania?s Battle Cry conferences, reaching over 38,000 youth. ? It my desire to hear the hearts of the youth I know are hurting, searching for answers and are facing each day with a mission to simply survive,? she states, ? I can?t save them but I can be a big sister, I can shed some light and bring some hope. If my music, my life and my testimony can become contagious, then I?ve done my job!? This passion is the fuel behind S.T.A.N.D (Secret Treasures Are N? Demad), a non-profit organization launched to empower this generation to discover their treasure and equip them to live out their dreams. ?Music is my expression, S.T.A.N.D. is my mission? Chantel candidly shares. ?I?m determined to use my success to expose young people to the secret treasures that lie within us all, regardless of past experiences.? S.T.A.N.D. offers programs, curriculum, empowerment sessions and products for young people to effectively find the gift within them.
With a four-year gestation period, Chantel?s debut album is finally ready to be heard by the world. This project features a soulful sound that is set to capture the heart, mind and soul of every ear. Through her innovative arrangements of music and personally penned lyrics, Chantel captures a diverse and strikingly original sound. CONTAGIOUS certainly has something to offer every person from every race, religious connection and walk of life.
Her devout humility, exceptional grace and sincere love for this generation are what has fueled this young woman to work as hard as she has to not only become the next great in the music industry, but to become a true role model for young women from every walk of life. As much excitement surrounds her experiences, we are confident that this is only just the beginning of great things for this award winning vocalist. Be warned ? its Contagious!Have you performed in front of an audience?Well sing live all of the time! I'm in front of over 1,000 people weekly... I'm a worship leader at my church and I perform around the world! I just did a conference called Battle Cry in Ny 15,000 people it was incredible! I guess the best feeling is not only performing but meeting the people in the audience that have never heard me before and hearing them say in tears or with huge smiles "you are amazing, you encouraged me so much!"
