As Trance as I've gotten so far. Okay, I confess. I used one "canned" loop in this song (loop from a royalty-free sample library.) As a general rule I make all my own sounds and loops. But this one I just couldn't do without!

Trance

Just me and my computer....I used to spin back before desktop studios and such. Mostly the top-40 type stuff of the day- 2-Unlimited, the latest from Madonna, you know...as long as the tunes had beats that went together well. My favorites were always the trance-type tracks though. The creation of music always fascinated me, although I never did learn to play an instrument. Jumping ahead a bit, today's technology is very forgiving to those with a musical ear but no manual dexterity :D
Band/artist history
I started playing around with Acid software back in 2001 after giving up DJing for other interests. Although not very efficiently at first, (I spent an awful amount of time just screwing around with the software,) I was able to take a song that I was hearing in my head and give it some sort of outlet for the first time. From that time till now, I've worked on making better and better music, piecing together bits of knowledge that I've gotten from as far back as elementary school with what I learned during my DJing excursions. I'd like to think I've come a long way, but I continue to learn something new with every song I create. My Soundclick tunes are a timeline of sorts; moving down the playlist is like going further and further back into my early days of production.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I DJ in and around Albany, New York, but I'm always willing to find someplace new to DJ at. I am currently studying how to incorporate more live music performance in my DJ sets using Ableton Live.
Your musical influences
Prog-rock and jam bands of the late 60's through today. Namely Rush, Genesis, and Journey (mostly pre-Steve Perry) the Dead and Phish, and more recently Porcupine Tree and Opeth. Trance is primarily what I produce. (Influences? You might not hear much influence from the bands I listed in my tunes but "influence" can mean a few different things, right?) I'm branching out into house territory with some of my latest stuff. As far as the music I listen to, I like anything that's not too far out in left field, regardless of the genre, ie. death-metal, tears-in-my-beer-country, or gangsta-rap. It's a fine line; being an innovative musician without being too far out there! As of late (the past 2-3 years or so), I've moved away from commercial music and FM radio almost entirely, and get my groove on to tunes from indie-artists like the ones I find here on Soundclick, Myspace, and through podcasts I subscribe to. I can't be bothered anymore with the bullshit of the music "establishment", and I feel like I'm the better for it! I think that helps to drive my musical ambitions, and I also find there's so much quality stuff out there if you look for it. Counterculture...Yeah!
What equipment do you use?
FL Studio, Acid, and Ableton Live.
Anything else?
I don't post new music here very often, but that doesn't mean I'm not working on something at any given time!
