The band is an instrumental band combining elements of Jazz fusion and heavy progressive rock and have been together since late 2008!
The Cilikis are a four piece progressive heavy fusion band based out of Redlands & The Gold Coast. Formed by Brendan McLaughlin and Frank Horvath with Franks long time friend Tyronne Anderson. In the beginning, The Cilikis started off as a progressive metal guitar rock band, but as time went on, tastes, tone and styles of playing and writing shifted over time to a more jazz fusion, heavy fusion crossover focus.
The Cilkis released their debut album under the name, "The Cilikis Progressio Project". This album was an eight track release featuring varied styles of instrumental music from guitar rock in the style of Joe Satriani, progressive metal tracks to instrumental funk.
In 2013, The Cilikis released their second album, a 5 track EP called "Unusual Conversations". The album was a big departure from the first album utilising a more technical, fusion, jazz inspired elements and composition style. Each track is unique and descriptive, telling an in-depth story with just guitars, drums and bass in a way no other instrumental band does.
In 2015, the band was approached by a young saxophonist by the name of Jay-Louise. She asked if we'd be interested in a jam. That jam opened up the band to sound of a saxophone over the top of some of our songs. As of 2015 The Cilikis is now a four member band. Jay-Louise has brought a new sound and direction to the band.
The Cilikis have supported and shared the stage with some of Australia's premier progressive rock and metal acts such as Caligula's Horse, Ne Obliviscaris, Sleepmakeswaves , Circles (Melbourne), Vanishing Point, Envenomed, Alpine Fault, Arcane and many others since its inception.
