Band/artist history
I'm a 20 year old songwriter/singer & I've been singing probably since I could utter a word! My Grandmother, believe it or not, was a huge video gamer and I was never really into them that much, so when she'd play, I'd just sit next to her and make up songs to the Super Mario & Sonic Instrumentals! I used to drive my brother & sister crazy with it! I actually began writing & arranging my own songs at the age of 9. All I had was a two deck cassette boom box and my toy chest, which I used to beat on to make my beats and swap out my tapes to record my songs. I sang with my sister in church off & on but gospel was never really my thing..I was always writing and singing about something I knew NOTHING about...love. I was always involved in school choirs in grade school however I found my true love in the recording booth at the age of 14. It was nothing fancy, a home studio, booth in the closet but from there I knew it was where I wanted to spend the rest of my life! In 2001 I entered into the YdoUThink contest & won 1st place. There I got to perform an original song titled "Feelin' You" and meet, then, up and coming R&B sensation Mario. With the prize money I bought a Casio keyboard, 4 track sound recorder, 1 mic (LOL) and stand & two cassette tapes. Once I had my own little portable studio, I was able to sit & perfect my talent & the rest, from there, is history still in the making.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I have performed live but not my music. Just a song I was featured on.
Your musical influences
Growing up in foster care & moving from home to home, I don't have the luxury of saying I grew up on such & such. I recieved my first cassette tape at the age of 9 as a christmas present and it was Brandy's "Never Say Never" Album. However at the time & till this day my idol is the underrated Mya. Brandy, Mya, Moncia, Destiny's Child, Lauryn Hill, Celine Dion and pretty much the 90's era was a HUGE influence for me. As I got older I began to go back and discovered there was a whole generation and more before me that I also found inspiring. James Brown, Sam Cooke, Tina Marie, Rick James, Silk, Boyz II Men and the list goes on. I found comfort in music and definetly used it as a second realm for when times became unbearable.
What equipment do you use?
Uh...protools?? I'm a singer so I guess we have preferences lol. But protools allows me to use as many tracks as I need with out having to bounce already used ones. I stack my vocals the most 4 times and I do a lot of harmonies and layering so I can use up a lot. I've still had to bounce tracks just to make room because song wouldn't play back all of the tracks.
