Drift Away Drift Away

Acoustic Rock

Vehicle was formed in 2007 by former front man of the Chicago based rock band Harvest, Scott Barnes. After a decade of gigging around Chicago, a few short tours to the east coast, and multiple releases with the band Scott decided it was time for something different. Harvest had enjoyed moderate success regionally and got great reviews from various media outlets but never really took off. The band was founded by three brothers (Scott, Steve, and Russ Barnes) and as you can guess things got difficult when it came to making important decisions. The band fell apart and reformed a couple of times and always had a difficult time nailing down a dedicated drummer. As the years wore on the three brothers branched off in their musical tastes and continually butted heads on which direction to take. Scott favored a more acoustic singer/ songwriter style and was influenced by artists such as Bob Dylan, CSN, Neil Young, Damien Rice, David Gray, Elliot Smith, and Nick Drake. His writing took a turn towards this style and the songs became more heartfelt and personal. They didnt particularly fit the mold Harvest had created. Therefore he created a solo project and named it Vehicle. Vehicle got a quick response and was received very well by dedicated Harvest fans already familiar with his voice. The message seemed to be getting out and after a few months of playing shows Scott went into the studio and recorded his debut album Empty Rooms. Immediately afterwards he began gigging heavily. Playing shows around Chicago and in the summer of 2008 did an east coast tour in support of the album. In the meantime he began to receive recognition overseas via the internet and decided to put together a stint of shows in Ireland. While touring abroad, Vehicle landed a distribution deal with Believe the largest digital distribution company in Europe. With new found success, a growing fan base, and a debut album that has attracted more attention in the last few months than anything hed been a part of for the last decade, Scott headed back to the states. He now lives and works out of the Chicagoland area and is busy recording his second coming album. Scotts music is made and performed from the heart, plain and simple. Presented more as an art form than a product, Vehicle captures what it is really all about. Looking to become more prevalent in the independent scene Vehicle is making a push and hopes are high.
